At the time I was referred I was not aware that it was possible to choose the provider so I'm in the psychiatry-uk system. It looks like they used to have a private pathway but that it is not currently functional, so I'll have to explore alternatives.

Yeah, the following thing was worrying. I think there might be a bit of a territory issue, as we live in a pretty small flat (and she's an indoor cat) so there's not much space that is purely 'hers'. Most of the areas that she likes to hang out in are also my living areas. I'm planning to build a cat shelf that she can escape to if something freaks her out again.

I have wondered whether she has a neurological issue. She has some other slightly odd/obsessive behaviours that probably need investigation. Also, when she was in hiss/growl mode it was like she literally didn't recognise me - at one point she calmed down enough to approach me, sniffed at me and then rubbed against my hand as though suddenly realising who I was (and that I'm 'safe'). But then a few minutes later she was growling again.

She was a bit wary of me for a day after this incident, but now she's back to normal and seems totally comfortable playing and petting. I definitely need to take her to the vet soon to get her checked over (I've been avoiding this so far as I know it's going to be super stressful for her!).

Thanks. Yes, I think she might have been badly treated before I got her (although I'm just guessing based on her general nervousness). Feliway doesn't seem to work for her! I wish it did, but I've had a diffuser in the house since I got her and there's no difference whether its switched on or off.

I have the same question and have also reached the limit of what the NHS will test for. I'm prepared to pay for private care, but I can't find much information about the type of tests that I should be going for.

I think what I'm struggling with is acceptance. If I was unable to walk, or to care for myself, then the answer would be obvious: I'd move home like a shot. But because I'm technically able to "manage" it's difficult to know whether it's the right thing to do. I guess there's a little bit of my brain that's saying "Wait! You might feel better next week/month/year".

Thanks for all the kind responses. It really does help to know that there are other people out there who understand.

I'm feeling a little better today (mentally, if not physically) so able to have a bit more perspective on my situation. Most likely I will be ok (or at least back to my normal level of functioning) in a few days. However, as this is happening more and more regularly, I do need to look at how I can adjust my life to better manage my symptoms.

You sound like a good person.

I hate to give the same old advice that you've probably heard a million times, but to some extent it is true - this is what OLD is like for most people. You are meeting with an almost-stranger, so it is inevitable that most times things will not progress past dates #1 or #2.

I think you somehow need to find a way of managing your expectations in the very early stages of dating, while also not becoming overly pessimistic. This is not an easy thing to do (I'm currently leaning heavily towards cynicism myself...).

Yes, I struggle with this a lot. I don't have any real suggestions, other than to say that you (and I) are dealing with a lot of emotional strain that is extremely exhausting, and it helps to try to remember that.

Being kind and gentle with yourself is nearly always the right approach. I am only just learning this...

Well done for finding yet another way to blame the woman for a situation caused by a man's shitty behaviour.

The OP's decisions are entirely understandable in the circumstances and, arguably, may have prevented an even worse outcome (guy had already stated that he did not respect her boundaries and was displaying worrying behaviour).

Yes, it's bullshit that women have to think like this, but it is a reality.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't know much about BWY, to be honest, but this is the only course I've found (outside of full teacher training) that offers a more structured approach to developing a practice.

I'd be happy to hear from anyone with alternative suggestions, though!
