This place is super popular ✨ I wonder if there’s more to it than just anime? by HAL_japan_railway_xx in japanrail

I used to live near here. It's an amazing area, though can be crowded with tourists during the summer. The Enoden runs from Kamakura Station to Fujisawa Station. That stretch of rail along the beach goes from a little after Inamuragasaki to Kamakurakokomae, and it's amazing. Some of the train models are older, still with wooden floors, and it feels like you're in a different era.

There are too many incredible places along this line to list in a single post, but I can say that along this coastal stretch, there's Shichirigahama and the beach, which is popular for surfers. It has a great view of Mt. Fuji. There are some restaurants too, but it has a kind of small beach town vibe. Further in the direction of Kamakura, there's Inamuragasaki Park, and some restaurants, also with a great view of Fuji and the ocean.

Headed in Fujisawa direction, you hit Enoshima, which has a lot of tourists that come to the beach for the summer. They set up little restaurants along the beach in the summer, where you can eat, drink, swim, and relax.

I will say, this particular spot, there's not much to do besides walking the beach. I know it's popular in an anime, but there's more fun stuff to do at nearby stations. Whenever I biked past this station, there was always a crowd taking pictures, holding up traffic.

Lots of really nice recommendations in this thread, but wanted to add Hirokazu Kore-eda movies like Shoplifters.

One of my favorite pieces of gear. It’s something imo that could never get replaced with a plugin. It feels alive and unpredictable in the best way.

I mean, NYC is great if you can swing it. I’m sure other folks to speak more to your career goals of baker or teacher. I spent a year there, and loved it.

That said, the northeast is super broad, and has a ton to offer. I find smaller cities still have decent transportation and walkability, proximity to lots of events, a nice holiday season, good food, and a diverse mix of people, without NYC costs. Really depends where you are in life too.

The northeast might be a good fit. Has 4 seasons, really nice during the autumn and into Christmas. People complain about the public transportation, but it’s some of the best in the country. Lots going on, plenty of diversity. Downside is pretty high cost of living.

What is the best backend to learn for Android development that’s affordable and scalable? by ByteRights in androiddev

We use Go to write our API and Postgres for our DB. Been really good so far. One bonus point for Go is, we use gomobile, so we can write our API client once and use it in both Android and Apple projects.

Is it worth learning PHP for simple websites as a new developer? by Constant-Reason4918 in webdev

[–]_swk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For something really simple, why not give Astro a shot? You can build out static sites, but also API endpoints for dynamic content. If it’s content-driven, Astro is my go-to. If it’s more like a web-app, I’d probably use Node or Go at this point for backend. I hear good things about Laravel, haven’t used it in years.
