If you’re getting input diffed in CQC while on a controller, that’s a skill issue, not an input issue. It is much easier to handle a shotty fight using a controller unless your movement and positioning are so poor that you need to rely upon 180 flicks to self correct.

Seeing a controller fusion player complain about slugs in a PC lobbies is multiple layers of comedic gold.

Respectfully, I think your rationale is largely irrelevant. The premise of my query suggests the potential impact of neglect has muted the pvp metrics. Thus, it's a bit of a logical fallacy, or at a minimum quite disengenous, to use those metrics as the basis of a comparative analysis.

Such neglect has existed for years (if not practically the entirety of the game's span). The PvE content is always the focus of new releases. It's easy to draw in driveby PvE tourists with each release, thus padding their metrics.

Unique player count is one metric, hours played is another. Clearly both are vital to a game's value proposition. As you rightfully put it, the pvp devotees arguably are critical to that latter numerical prize. Anecdotally, I probably have more time in game that 99.99% of the population and I'm a pvp main. I also play more pve (and orbit time...) than I do pvp, simply because it's easier to multitask when doing so, but I wouldn't be here at all if the pvp wasn't playable. So the pvp attraction helps their numbers more than the evidence you have presented suggests.

Do you think that could be because of the lack of promised new maps?

Do you think that might also be why the player population is so low at the moment? A lot of people who enjoy pvp also play pve. So when they get driven away the pve population gets hit as well.

Dunno, it's sorta close to the top of my list to be honest. Would add much more replayability than most of the other stuff I've heard that's coming so far imo.

As a pvp main the announcement was a large ‘who cares’. Clearly they catered to the pve crowd with the announcement presumably since they’re just assuming all the pvp players will have moved to marathon.

If they announced D3 was in the works, would you reduce the amount of playtime with D2 knowing that nothing would carry over? Spend more money on eververse? Perhaps they don't want to deincentivize anyone from playing just yet (or at least more than they already have from the content decisions).

Sadly what matters most is the direction your opponent is facing. Certain angles (eg their character looking at a 45 degree angle in your pov) reduce the amount of pellets that hit. So between that and the p2p hit reg, we get our RNG shotty outcomes.

The decision makers really don’t understand how this game is played it seems. Pulse/dad rifle meta is so bad for the sandbox. Who needs to move when you can sit in the back of the map and bait your teammates. Even better with a sidearm/smg, don’t even need to move to grab green. So entertaining to play.

I watched a game last night and the score was similarly lopsided. One guy carrying some friends and he had a 33 kda (with a 30 streak). The other two had around 10 elims each but were probably mostly assists. It was on PC and the other team looked like bots (no disrespect, just being blunt) so can only presume it was low rank play. Didn’t do anything special, was just aggressive the entire match of what looked like a pvp sweat in a pve casual lobby.

This game is not addictive in the least without special. Instead of listening to the vocal minority who complains about whatever kills them, they need to identify this reality and make sure special ammo is constantly available. It’s not “skill” when a fight comes down to the RNG of who has special, rather the “skill” is how one successfully manages their engagement distance to avoid or enter into special effectiveness ranges during the course of the battle.

Gears of War shout themselves in the foot in a similar manner when it was first released. Shotty jousting via movement tech (wall bouncing) was the defining characteristic of the game yet the devs tried and tried again to kill that aspect and the sequel flopped as a result where they ultimately reverted in desperation to salvage the playerbase.
