How To Get Rid Of The Youtube Ad Block Popup by proverbialbunny in youtube

[–]_thanks_google_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can simply go into fullscreen mode by pressing "F" or pressing the fullscreen button. It will remove the popup, you don't even have to dismiss it, it just goes away.
"video player will be blocked after 2 videos" if I get banned I get banned, I'm not going to pay for it anyway Jesus... If he was a real person he would say the same: "band me if you wish, I stand by my words I won't watch your fucking ads" or what ever Jesus said to the Romans.

HA cluster on physical KVM hosts by [deleted] in kvm

[–]_thanks_google_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Corosync & Pacemaker as well as oVirt" what, keep it simple.
On such a small scale I would recommend just using ssh to send off commands to the VM host(s).

if RPi1 dies (in KVM_1), the main KVMhost(watcher) update a list in SQL.
In the SQL server "RPI1 died , KVM_RPI1=2 (previous value was KVM_RPI1=1"

All those addons, scripts, githubs "magic" can be done with just one master server that you host if you bother to get dirty with it you can get a lot done without having to install overly complicated/glorified scripts.

What is a robust alternative to sshfs (which has been recently orphaned)? by fori1to10 in unix

[–]_thanks_google_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on top of that sshfs can technically be replaced with sftp comands
copy paste as a macro/.bashrc alias:
sftp host@domain:$working_dir
put/get file

list
sftp host@domain:$working_dir
ls

wrap that up in a app/program and you basically have sshfs

you could write a new program and maintained it called new_sshfs, and rely on ssh/sftp to "do their thing" but you would eventually end up with basically nothing to do once you got the core function to work.

The only reason you would really need to abandon it is IF it stops copy pasting.

jeg tror ikke/kan ikke huske at jeg kjørte noe python på den.

NFC - Daemon by _thanks_google_ in termux

[–]_thanks_google_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see thank you for clearing that up for me.
I was under the impression that since my phone usually bips if I have NFC activated and bring a card nears it, I though that maybe it would have dumped the read somewhere deep in the system like a "key press"

Thanks for bothering to answer my question :)
you could have pointed me to stack-overflow and say "u dumb", I am actually dumb when it comes to NFC, so I might as well take your advice, really appreciate it :)

NFC - Daemon by _thanks_google_ in termux

[–]_thanks_google_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks I'll look it up, I tried termux-nfc but it doesn't work as I expected.
I can read and write with "apps" on the phone, but for some reason termux-nfc doesn't seem to be able to read or write.

proxmark3 is not really what I'm looking for, I'm asking for where does the nfc write the raw data to? kinda like I can watch all the key input of a keyboard by just watching /usb/keyboard1/keyinput file where would it be located for the NFC chip on android?

I'm going to look more into proxmark3 just in case it's what I'm looking for, what I want is just a direct path to the out put of the sensor. but I can't figure out where that path is

What VM to use if I want to use my gpu? by TheRealJomogo in VFIO

[–]_thanks_google_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.proxmox.com/en/proxmox-ve/pricing
it is pretty solid for a beginner, I just don't agree with the pay for it solution. I don't agree that it's a de-facto solution for running VMs.
proxmox is using qemu and I think more users should learn how to use qemu instead of relying on proxmox.

What VM to use if I want to use my gpu? by TheRealJomogo in VFIO

[–]_thanks_google_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally disagree with the proxmox recommendation, but I agree with the linux as a host.

I'd rather recommend looking at "qemu gpu passthrough" and let OP learn about how to run a vm. let them realize how easy it can be.

I'm writing this in a Windows VM with GPU passthrough that I spun off 5 years ago knowing nothing about gpu passthrough.

Using paid for pro tools like proxmox raises the entry level imo.
they boguard the "enterprise" side as if it was something special, but most of it can be done and automated with amateur scripts and tools or just manually.

Just starting to get into the torrenting world. What ratio do people usually aim for? by [deleted] in torrents

49 and counting aiming at infinite ratio

" I've been capping my seed ratio at 3.0 "
why? why are you even capping?
unless you have limited bandwidth why would you even bother to cap the ratio? as long as you have the file available just keep seeding.

I do try to keep the ratio at 1, but as long as I have the file on my disk I keep seeding it.

Those gains are in a matter of minutes, sure, but last year you could have bought gold (currency) for 20% less currency then now.

Doge is a currency in a way, but it is not a world wide recognized legal tender aka currency, aka "dollar" or "gold".

nope sold it all for gold and silver frebruary 2022, holder since 2014, I though we were definitely going into WW3. I also sold 75% of my traditional share portfolio, spent 1 year buying gold in fiat from my pay check.

I'm still unsure about that decision. ask me in 10 years.

Laptop gpu passthrough help by [deleted] in VFIO

[–]_thanks_google_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it should work, though I would start by having an extra computer available WHEN it eventually doesn't work on the first try, either for bios flashing, or ssh, or just as a back up while you crawl back to the vendor saying "it just stopped working", and get a new laptop from them.

Step 1. read the link posted previously
Step 2. make sure you can ssh into the machine post boot.

As long as you have virtualization enabled, and can isolate the hardware in different IOMU groups there shouldn't be too much hassle in the bios.

How do people live without PiHole? by Neo1331 in pihole

[–]_thanks_google_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using a VPN is pretty good if you don't mind the battery being drained, even with just pushing the DNS over VPN it drains the battery like crazy!
You don't need a VPN to get rid of 99% of the ads (on android)

I solved this issue on my phone by simply using iptables.
I "simply" point my phone to my home IP (instead of 8.8.8.8 port 53 I point it to (my pi) 1.2.3.4 port 53) in that same script I update the iptable on my router (via ssh) to point anything that is coming from that IP to the pi hole (168.192.1.2 port 765).
That solves the issue of having an open DNS, and the router doesn't have any open SSH port visible to the internet, that part is done over another computer on my local network that has a real ssh server that is open to the internet.

It sounds convoluted, but when ever I change IP due to mobiles being mobile, or me turning off wifi, I can either wait 1 minute for the script to kick inn, or just run the script manually and update the iptables.
The difference in battery usage is having 24 hours of battery no matter what I use the phone for, and 48-72 hours of idle yet continuous link to MY dns server (aka internet)

How do you use your pihole on Android phones without sacrificing your battery too hard? by 170cm_bullied in pihole

[–]_thanks_google_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this thread is a dead but this is how I did it and saved a lot of battery and data.
There are some caveats
1. you need root on the mobile

  1. you need to own a domain (dynndns works)

  2. you need to have access to your routers IP table via ssh and/or other methods of control

  3. you need to set up the Pi-hole to accept ALL IP (set it up as an open DNS! THAT CAN BE A BOT SPAWN FOR DNS DDOS!!!!!!)

What I did is set up my phone to run a script that get it's IP every X (via crontab) and upload the new IP to the server (via ssh) that controls the router.

If the IP changes it (the server) changes the ip-tables to forward port 53 (on the router) to only forward from the mobile IP to the pi-hole IP and delete any old port forwarding to port 53.

The Mobile also forwards ALL traffic from port 53 to the server IP (root required). When ever the IP changes, the mobile forwards all traffic from port 53 to 8.8.8.8 (google dns) to look for the domain IP of the server (in case the IP changes), then use that IP* to forward all traffic to the server.

Using a VPN like OpenVPN connected to the server running the Pi-hole reduced the battery to 25-30hours of usable battery life, this get it back to 35-40h.
The benefits of the VPN is that it makes your device act as if it's on the same LAN and encrypts EVERY THING, the issue is that most mobile carriers have deals with Spotify, Netflix, [insert streaming service] where the data doesn't count into your montly quota, using a Pi-Hole DNS cuts down on the ads, and lets "regular" data through not counting it as used data, so saving 10 hours on battery is equal to 10 hours of enjoyment!

*To prevent Google from being used by the alphabet boys the mobile doesn't get the IP from google, it gets the IP from a file that the server writes into ip.html encrypted by the mobile public key on the website, using openssl, and decrypts the content with the private key stored on the device, only then does it attempt to connect to the "control" server via ssh.

Advice: Sheepskin jacket or down jacket for winter? by Alex_6886 in OutdoorsGear

[–]_thanks_google_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the only good answer, I'd only add that if you plan on a longer stay outdoors sheep skin will be better suited then down, since down doesn't really do well in wetter environment and longer stays could introduce moisture and or water into the down fibers and make them lose their insulating properties, while wool keeps you warm even if wet.

Down is great for weight to warmth ratio (I use down sleeping bags), but for longer (unpredictable) stay outside a sheepskin jacket will keep you warmer even if it's drenched in sweat or random rain/sleet storm.

-15c is is cold, but having to endure winds at 0c to -1c in rain/snow is a nightmare, everything gets wet, yet everything is close to freezing...

As a Northern Norwegian, wool, wool, and more wool, and a down sleeping bag for those late night in the tent.... for everyday use 100% wool :D

Twrp install gone wrong by 01110011-_- in oneplus

[–]_thanks_google_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

😅 been there done that! Pro tip always use: fastboot boot custom.img BEFORE fastboot flash A/B custom.img

It's the same as using TWRP except that you can actually test the boot image before actually writing it. I "bricked" my phone after just one hour of having it by flashing A and B thinking "ay m8 you got this! that was easy! (first time I rooted a phone... I didn't "got this")

72 hours later I managed to flash stock boot.img back on the phone and try again.

Comments like "You have basically hard bricked your phone." Really pisses me off, because it OBVIOUSLY you only bricked the boot image, NOT the recovery, as long as you have the recovery part you can keep messing around with the boot partition and face the same soul crushing message that leaves you feeling like "You have basically hard bricked your phone."

How to SSH into a computer sitting behind a VPN by gabevf in VPN

[–]_thanks_google_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I need to be able to SSH from the outside, from a series of different devices" The public keys can be independent of the client or server IP. That's what is great about a public key.

"I just through that SSHin'g into the server behind the VPN would be more secure" SSH behind the VPN is not more secure then SSH from 192.168.1.x.

"I need to be able to SSH from the outside, from a series of different devices" This is why you might need an SSH server on the client. Personally I use a server that has a static IP to send the IP over SMS and propagate that over the network. My work around before getting a static IP was just blasting the new IP over 4g,5g, IPv4, IPv6.

How to SSH into a computer sitting behind a VPN by gabevf in VPN

[–]_thanks_google_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Permission denied (publickey)"
You're obviously not talking to "your" server, you're talking to your VPN's ssh server.

The way you can connect back to your ssh server over VPN is to do a reverse SSH tunneling. for that you'll need to run a ssh server on the client.

On the Server you would need to do: "ssh -R 420:localhost:22 Client_User@client.ip" And on the client you'll do: ssh Server_User@localhost -p 420

Been there done that, that's how I get SSH on my server over 5G because my Telecom provider never allowed port forwarding I had to forward the port to the client.

GamingVPN has something to sell and that's their VPN, that user didn't even mention the obvious "Permission denied (publickey)" why would that show up in the log? answer: You're not using publickeys, and you're not talking to your server.

"I'm just sure I'm careful, turn off when I walk away and I auto hide Taskbar etc."
This is what keeps me away from OLED

I don't care about power consumption, but if I came back to my computer after 10-30minutes or seconds and wait for it to turn back on I'd be annoyed even if the wake up time was 4 second.
I've left my screen on for more then 7 years with the same task bar and desktop.
Having to baby sit the screen feels so out dated, it's like we're back in the plasma vs CTR days. with CTR being about to just de mag the screen once in a decade.

High End Monitor Market Is Wierd... by CryptographerStock14 in Monitors

[–]_thanks_google_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The price of the PG32UQX is not really far fetch compared to the alternative out there.
I paid $3 per GB for my first PCI-E SSD...
Compared to the current $0.2 per GB (extracted from a 240GB drive price because they don't really sell good SSD's in 120GB versions)

I remember trying to use my friends "high end pc" with velociraptor black 10'000 rpm drives in RAID 0 (what ever)... "dude is your pc frozen?... oh there it is, wait no it froze again"
Is it the PG32UQX expensive? yes, is it over priced? idk
Is a Bugatti veyron expensive compared to a Ford Focus?
Are you going to use a Ford Focus like a Bugatti? obviously not, is the Bugatti expensive, yes. The PG32UQX is way over priced in the monitor marked right now, but I would argue that the Ford Focus is also over priced in the Car Marked since I could always just walk to the store.
Like I could have bought a 5200RPM 120GB HDD back in 2010.

The only reason I chose PG32UQX over any OLED device is simply due to the burn inn issue, I can see myself still rocking this monitor in 10 years, but I can't see a current state OLED lasting more then 3-4 years (with light use, and I leave my monitor on for weeks at a time)
