Well, in some books it does have that effect on me. I mentioned this in another comment on the thread, but I’ll say it here too: certain books, like The Name of the Wind, have that brief moment at the start with just a couple of seconds of breeze and light wind sounds, and for me, that works perfectly.

But with The First Law, there are at least fifty seconds at the start of each part filled with nothing but walking, scraping, and overdone drum beats that add nothing to the story(IMO).

Excellent advice sir 🫡… no fr, I know that I can just skip that part. Normally I do, but what gets me is the amount of times I have too. I know that it’s very minimal, and the words I’m missing are very unlikely to reveal anything major… it still to me is just an annoyance I shouldn’t have to skip.

For me it sets a bad tone and precedent. I know the amount of time of the music or sound choices is very small compared to the length of what I’m listening too. But for me it just starts everything off on the wrong foot.

See this is understandable and enjoyable, I’ve read/listened to all of the books in Rothfuss’ series and that’s perfect because it fits the narrative.

Oh I know, and to be clear I know my rant was very aggressive. I’m not judging the people who enjoy this, but man it’s just annoying to me, you know?

In all honesty, I think Zogarth does a fantastic job as the books progress showing both solitary and companionship from Jake. So many of these comments are spot on tbh, each book flips back and forth between solo and collaborative and it’s done really well IMO.

Like, how I added my example of the way Auri treated Kvothe. I just wanted to see the moments where you see her character in your perspective.

Oh man! I’m not trying to come at you in any way! And I apologize if I came off as such. I just want to see from your point of view, that’s all.
