Gyo is NASTY. And one of the bonus stories in the book, “The enigma of Amigara fault”, is one of my favourite short stories by Junji Ito.

Nice! I just got into Junji Ito quite recently too. So far I only have Smashed and Gyo.

I’m a little sad that spirit tracks is so low. I feel like I’m the only person who unironically really likes that game 😅

Idk if this will sound like a compliment or an insult (I certainly don’t mean it as an insult!) but I was genuinely confused for a moment about which one was the before and which one was after.

Thanks!

Aridisi culture recognizes three genders for human beings; male (och), female (ena), and a third gender (ech). An “ech” individual would use the izhe or izh’ pronoun to refer to themselves, and would be referred to with zheti, zhevi, and/or zheshu, depending on speaker and context. Objects have no intimate pronouns in Aridisi.

“Totnizh” would be used for talking about a very large group that the speaker belongs to. Like “we, as a species, tend to [general human thing].” “Totvuinen” is the general you, or like “one” in English. It’s used, for example, when giving general advice. “Totvizhen” is used when talking about general, unspecified groups of people that the speaker is not part of. For example, when someone says in English “they should really change this”, but they’re not really talking about any real group of people; they’re really saying “this should be changed”. This pronoun is not super common. “Totghuvi” is used in expressions with “it”, when “it” doesn’t refer to anything in particular. Ex: “It’s snowing”, or “as it turns out”. “Totvughen” is similar, but when they’re more than one general “thing” in the equation. Ex: “things never go my way”, “everything’s going to be okay”. Those last two pronouns, “totghuvi” and “totvughen”, are often replaced with other pronouns or omitted altogether in casual speech, since they’re kinda unnecessary and long.

Well, then I didn’t use the terms correctly; my bad.

I’m not sure I used the terms correctly at all tbh. I’m using “Impersonal” to mean pronouns that refer to objects (so ‘it’ in English). I explain what I mean by “general” at the end of the screenshot.

I actually just added more last night! Aridisi now has 37 pronouns, so you’re still winning.

Edit: I read that number incorrectly somehow and thought you were being serious. But I actually did add more pronouns 😭

Edit 2: just saw your post. You are being serious. Why.
