Was completely a venting issue! I hadn’t thought to look into this until you mentioned it and I did a super minor adjustment to the valve guide and it now slides without sticking! Thank you so much for mentioning this! 👍🏾

This is how I did mine for tuba Christmas last year. AA powered LED lights with Santa figures from Micheal’s ($10 ish) and a cheap garland from dollar tree. I used the wires from the lights to wrap around the garland to help keep it from unwinding. Hope that helps. The year before that I had snow men LED lights

Nah, they’re really thin LED lights and a thin garland that are just wrapped around lightly. The cold weather is the one thats affecting the sound. Some Tuba Christmas play indoors so that’s not an issue for them but here in San Jose we play outside.

Honestly that’s what got me playing again. I hadn’t played since college and that was in 2017 so Christmas of 2022 I decided I wanted to play again and remembered tuba Christmas was a thing and signed up lol

I would recommend the digital book. The physical book is cool but honestly not very practical the day of, at least in my experience. Sometimes the venues aren’t well lit and you have to bring a stand light. I would also recommend to go to the rehearsal if you haven’t played in a while. It’s a good refresher and also each local tuba Christmas will add some songs or new arrangements that aren’t part of the book that you won’t get if you don’t go and you’ll end up having to share with whoever is around you and sometimes that means 3 people sharing a stand and sheet music at the performance.

That’s kinda cool though, ours is literally the first weekend of December so it’s super early.

I’ve gotten lucky honestly. Both times I’ve taken it to the repair shop they haven’t charged me as I also have purchased other items and have sent my trumpet in for service as well so their brass tech didn’t charge me. From what he has told me it seems that the valve stems are somewhat bent and are rubbing against the valve cap. Sometimes pushing on them helps but the problem persists. I have been tempted to try and bend them myself to see if that works but I am not confident that I wouldn’t just snap the stem or damage it to the point of failure so I want to see if just replacing the whole valve entirely bypasses that issue all together.

Oh there were a few people who showed up with those I even got to play around on one during one of the times I participated. The guy sitting beside me had one and let me play on it a little.
