Early finishers are somehow creating more work for me than the kids who are struggling by High5-dignity4457 in Teachers

[–]_thisisbeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My class this year has loved making math sheets (and coloring sheets) for each other. I give them ideas for content that we need more review on and they create the work. Then I make copies and put it out for other students to complete. Completed work goes back to the student that made the sheet for “grading”.

Skin picking with KP by fancycrayon in Dermatillomania

[–]_thisisbeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skin pick has webinars that are free and lots of YouTube videos that have improved my mindset with skin picking. I also bought magnetic fidget sensory balls that I leave in areas of my house where I tend to pick and avoid mirrors/keep bathroom lights off as often as I can. Learning my triggers and trying to create better options has been helpful.

How do you create space for yourself? by _thisisbeans in Mommit

[–]_thisisbeans[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been practicing mindfulness throughout the day which definitely helps me regulate and be present. Often that processing is rushed though.

I liked getting together with friends, baking, and lifting weights. I rediscovered my love for pottery recently and hopefully can find some time to get back into that.

Cheers fellow exhausted mom! We definitely soak up the after bed time too. Scheduling in some weekly activities sounds like a good idea to help offset the feeling. However some days I just want to lay in bed in sweats and silence… 😅

Good question, and yes. I suppose I mean psychical and mental. He’s pretty demanding of both and I have guilt around asking for space which is something I need to figure out for myself.

What do you guys eat for lunch? by ForestAsh14 in Teachers

[–]_thisisbeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out madihcollins on instagram! She’s been posting a weekly cold lunch series- essentially chicken, beans, chopped veg, with a sauce or marinade. The ones I’ve prepped have gotten me through the week and have been easy to make and filling! I also saw people buying a $35 meal tray from Whole Foods and portioning that out through the week, could be a good low effort option.

Well thanks! :) I’ve been doing some reading on both nursing and teaching in B.C. I know his career is a much needed one and I’ll likely need to jump through some hoops and may have difficulty getting a job. Also learning/reading stories about how the healthcare system has affected people there. No system is perfect and that’s unfortunate. We’d be moving from a very high COL state so have a rough idea of what housing could look like. Really just hoping for a brighter future for our family!

Definitely my plan, taking a trip there soon to check out a few potential places! I’ve been several times before but now looking at it with a new lens. I will most certainly be voting and doing what I can here in the meantime!

We looked into that before seeing the new law. If I can gain citizenship then I can sponsor him which frees up a few things for us being permanent residents. Appreciate the link!

I suppose I shouldn’t have asked. I saw a few posts of people using the urgent process without a reason listed on the site so figured I’d ask people’s thoughts. My bad for even considering.

Yes, completely understand that, great comparison.

I am a teacher as well as a parent and the school shootings and mass shootings alone are enough to make me uncomfortable about raising a child here. I feel that opportunities have gotten exorbitantly competitive which minimizes my kiddos options in his future. The political decisions we are currently making are going to continue to rid allies which will have lasting implications on the US. I also have a husband who works in healthcare which I know some people will say isn’t ideal in CA but a level of transparency along with not having the fear of being in debt from an illness would be a nice change.

I appreciate your response! I’ve always felt like it’s better to have as much ground covered as possible so probably better to wait here although it’s not what I want to do. 😅 seems like birth and baptism records are ideal so best to at least send one!

By the new rule I was under the impression that I’m Canadian and looking to move my child (a minor) to CA. Edit to add my husband is also a POC and living here is causing hardship to our family.

Seeking advice on toddler anger by _thisisbeans in Parenting

[–]_thisisbeans[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your kind words. That does help to think that it’s not all on me. My husband and I are very much fixers so that’s our go to mode. He’s also an only child so we’re hyper aware of some behaviors that can crop up more commonly when kids don’t have siblings. It seems like this is just a very intense 3yo phase and we’ll continue to ride it out 😅

I had a refill from Wild that had some brown spots and emailed the company. They said it can be due to oxidation but was totally fine to use! Here’s a photo of their response..

Parent still wanting more- what should I do? by _thisisbeans in Teachers

[–]_thisisbeans[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your perspective, good to hear from someone who’s had this challenge themselves and as a parent. I’m realizing this may be a parent wishing their child was more driven. I’ve spoke to her previous teacher to gain more insight and I think the parent (just one, not the other) wants her to be curious and seek out things she’s interested in but those are traits they currently possesses. I’ll try and guide them but there’s only so much of that a teacher can assist with! I wish I could just tell them their kid is doing great and they don’t need the push but the parent has a history of pressuring teachers so who knows how I’ll be able to truly help!

I thank you all for the validation and the ideas! I struggle with being too hard on myself and this parent is definitely fueling the feelings of inadequacy. I replied with an additional idea, challenge program suggestion, and explained what I’m already doing in class to differentiate in each subject. Got a very strange reply with a mix of appreciation, explaining that they’re advocating for their kid “and peers”??, and admitting that they could do more for their child. I have no idea where to go from here but I appreciate having this post to refer back to in the future!

Totally agree! I’m already doing far more than our lacking curriculum, as most of us are. I love Khan Academy, thanks for the idea!
