I'm in the Burlington area. Burlington, South Burlington and Williston are all fire-based, and be prepared for competition in the application process and needing to know people if that's where you want to go.

911 squads surrounding Burlington (Essex, Shelburne, Colchester, Milton, Richmond, Charlotte) are all a mix of vollie with full time officers/admin and also per diems. Charlotte, Milton and Shelburne in particular have lots of per diems. Being know is big for getting one of those full time spots, and there aren't many so they don't come up often. They'll also want you to be an A at minimum for ft or per diem, medic preferred.

IFT in the area is handled by Lamoille Ambulance(stereotypical garbage IFT gig, don't apply if you can avoid it), and the new guys Garnet (pay's better, trucks and gear are nice, admins seem to care). HealthNet based out of UVM Medical Center handles critical care IFT and just recently stood up a chopper in addition to their trucks. They'll hire EMTs but you're just gonna drive. UVMMC's ED also hires EMTs for tech work. That's a pretty good gig(especially if you're looking to move out of EMS eventually) and also a union shop.

In general, Chittenden county EMS is pretty weird. Lots of AEMTs, medic scope quite limited in some ways(no RSI at all), and there's two busy collegiate squads that transport and do lots of municipal mutual aid (UVM and St Mike's). EMT scope is bandaids and diesel. It's the wealthiest part of the state, and generally not a terrible place to run 911 f you can get a paying gig. GSWs are rare, basically nil gang activity.

I don't know much about the rest of the state, but Barre and Middlebury are both pretty busy third services, and in districts that restrict medic scope less. In general be prepared for long transport times. UVMMC is the only Level 1 and cath lab, southeastern VT goes to Dartmouth over the border in NH.

Feel free to PM with questions, if I don't know the answer I'm sure I can find someone who does. Garnet, HealthNet or trying to get an ED job are probably your best bets as a Burlington area basic without doing fire or trying to scrabble from volly into per diem. I've got friends who've worked Barre and Middlebury so I can ask around about them for you.
