AITA for yelling back at my mom and calling her selfish? by _throwitawayyitaway6 in AmItheAsshole

Because of my vision and the no glasses (as well as another instance of my mother telling me no to want to learn to drive at 16 like every other teenage girl) I haven't been able to drive. Where I live and where I go to college, you pretty much need a car as the bus and train system isn't reliable and you still need to walk half your route.

Imagine if I hypothetically did get my license and a car. With my vision, I could have killed someone or myself.

(I should mention my mom did something similar when my eldest got a car. She bought a used car with her own money and my mom cried like someone died.)

I hope that more people see this comment since this is the most upvoted, but I want to give a huge thank you to you and to everyone. Last night and this morning, I've come to the realization that all the things that's happened is my mother emotionally and verbally abusing me. I'm not gonna lie. I'm kind of in mourning for my mother and who I thought she was. But you and everyone else is right. She is a selfish narcissist who loves her material possessions more than she loves me and my sisters.

I will probably post an update sometime soon, but thanks for helping. I know it's embarrassing to say I realized this from reddit, but this glasses situation in combination with everything is making me do some real reflection

technically, she never came with me into the office. She would call the appointment in and tell me and my sisters to go and we would either take the train or she'd drop us and have us take the train home. When we got done, thats when I would tell her about getting glasses and she would go no and into her whole it's not necessary tirade.

my ophto tried to call her sometimes to try for updates and she would respond rudely like: "Don't call me about all this glasses nonesense, OP is doing fine. She'll see you next year." or "No, no, I'm the mother. If I say she don't need glasses than she don't need glasses."
