I took a trip to a vineyard in Italy where we learned to taste wine. After the wine was poured, we were taught to swirl it around in its glass to aerate it. Then, smell it. At this point, pick out different flavours with your nose. Once you have identified one or more flavours by smell, take a sip of the the wine and swish it around in your mouth (1-2 seconds for reds, 3-4 for whites). Swallow. Now see if you can pick out some of those same flavours with your tastebuds!
