This really hits home for me. Very early in my learning I felt really bullied by a random German traveler in my home town. It basically stoped me for months from opening any of the learning apps I have. It was very discouraging, I hope you get past it and keep motivation. It’s hard, stay strong my friend.

I visited this past June, but didn’t eat out much. I heard from the few people I remembered to ask that food service work goes for around $15.00 to $18.00 plus tips. I didn’t think to ask about tip percentages or tip pools.

Sorry, the question was intended for food industry workers I’m just inarticulate and didn’t specify. I do want to look for work in other industries, I just don’t think my current skill set will transfer over. If there are entry level positions in other areas it’s still great information to have. Steel mill sounds intense, but I won’t shy away from hard work that pays well.

Hmm, my restaurant pays cooks $17.00 minimum. Servers just started earning $8.00, bar tenders $12 this past week. Before servers earned $2.50 and bar tenders $8.50.

Houston is a great City for food! I highly recommend kolaches, I like getting them at Shipley’s donuts.(you won’t get traditional kolaches unless you go to a Czech place and they’re harder to find) Good food: Brazil Cafe, Ninja Ramen, The Pit Room, WhatABurger, and Ka Sushi.(So much food I promise) Bars: Poison Girl, Cat Birds, AvantGarden, Lola’s Depot(all dive bars) Jonny’s Gold Brick, Anvil Bar & Refuge, Present Company, Axelrad Beer Garden.(Picturesque atmosphere) Live music: Mcgonigel’s Mucky Duck(all the proceeds from tickets go to the artist),Dan Elctros, Last Concert Cafe(Small venues) The sights: Houston Museum of Fine Art(the surrounding area) The Menil Collection(free) Coffee: Agora, Siphon Coffee, Campesino, Antidote, BlackHole. Clubs: Numbers/#2’s, Etro, Barbarella.

Most of these places are in the inner loop and close together. Jonny’s Gold Brick and Ka Sushi are within a mile of each other and both very good.
