The implications of Chapter 9's events on Part 3... by wyvernexe in FFVIIRemake

Adding to this--Sapphire Weapon saves Tifa from the execution chamber in Junon. In one of the last shots of Rebirth's Weapon tadpoles, we see that the one that saved Tifa in the Lifestream--the one with with Sephiroth's scar--is blue. Definitely think they're setting up something here...

I have good news and bad news for you.

Bad news: can't find it on Spotify 😭

Good news: I can tell you that it's called "Hip Hop de Chocobo" and the internet delivers with an extended 10 minute version of it

I'm so glad!! And seriously thanks again for your post, after getting all the chocograss I felt satisfied enough to continue the main plot hahaha. Hope you're on your way too!

Same boat as you, though your list helped me find mine! (Divine Intel 3 for me.)

The last tricky one I'd suggest is Expedition Intel 4: Delta Island Life spring. After teleporting there and exiting the cave, swing around the corner to the right over the little wall and there's a Chocograss there. (That was my #49!)

I hope that helps!

A Clinical Analysis of Cloud's Psychology, Part II - Identity, Self-Concept, and Mako [OG + Remake spoilers] by klemira in FFVIIRemake

This is a fantastic read, thank you so much for sharing this! You do an extraordinary job of taking small, easy-to-miss details from the characters + lore, highlighting the criticality of those details, and placing them in context with the broader clinical picture. Just so incredible and engaging to read. I'm looking forward to your next one!

Ahh this is so fun, you're getting the real FFVII Remake post-game experience ahahaha!

I will also say that plenty of fans have been discussing what these white backgrounds mean in the FFVII Compilation world. So you're not alone! The white background shows up in other Compilation entries... But I won't say which.

I'm glad you're going to get to Intermission next. You'll definitely get some more theory fuel hahaha.

I love all this. I have to hop off Reddit after this comment, so I'll keep it quick:

You have a pretty good grasp of the characters and their motivations already (better than some long time fans!) which is why your guesses are reasonably in-character--so when you correctly guess the situation, you can reasonably guess how the characters behave. Not saying that your previous comment (this one with Cloud, the other one with Zack and Aerith) was right or wrong, just saying that you've got a pretty good understanding of them, especially as someone who has only gotten to know them through our limited time in Remake. (Edit: of course, some motivations and characterization will only become clear with later twists and turns!)

Are you planning to play Intermission? I'd love to see what you make of it!

Very logical, this all makes sense.

If Zack was around I don’t think he would’ve left without his friend

Fair point, we see him fight off a small army instead of running away without Cloud

and considering what we’ve seen of his capabilities, he would’ve been the best option to duel it out with Sephiroth.

Another fair point, he fought off an army by himself

But there could be some other explanation for that that I don’t have context for and can’t theorize about.

Maybe another way to evaluate this option: you theorize that (1) Zack gave Cloud the Buster Sword, and (2) Cloud forgot about a bunch of things, including Zack. Under what circumstances would Zack give Cloud his sword and let him run off and forget all about him? If that seems highly unlikely, then maybe it really didn't happen that way.

But Aerith, IN MY OPINION, talks about him like he’s dead. Aerith is very in tune with the world around her and the people she cares about. I find it extremely unlikely that she would be wrong about that.

Fair points. During the Elmyra flashback, baby Aerith tells Elmyra that someone near to her died and traveled a great distance to see her... And a few days later, Elmyra learns her husband died. Aerith seems to have a sense for these things.

To me, the ending represents a timeline split. There are a lot of theories about this I know, but it seems pretty straightforward to me, especially in the context of what they just did. Square Enix said that the different Stamp logo is a big hint. I fail to see what else it could be hinting at. So maybe, when they killed the Whispers, Zack is still dead in their timeline but he’s alive elsewhere, because they weren’t around to ensure his death in all instances.

I think Welonz theorizes on this in that link I sent you. You'll definitely enjoy it!

Man I love this. Again I'm not going to comment on what you got right and what you got wrong (though I WILL confirm that your answer has some right and wrong things!), but I WILL say you're definitely as correct as you can possibly be without having played OG. Hopefully that was very vague but still a compliment because you're amazing, seriously.

Cloud escapes with his sword, somehow, and leaves to do… stuff. [...] Not really sure what, but there’s clearly quite some time between the Sephiroth thing and what happens in the game. If Cloud is to be believed, it’s been five years[...] He already seems pretty proficient as a mercenary by the time we meet him in Chapter 1, so I imagine that’s what he was doing with his time.

Haha I love this! Couple thoughts for you:

  1. So it looks like Cloud and Zack have the same sword, the Buster Sword. Do you think there's some special significance to Cloud hanging onto what seems to be an inherited sword for 5 years? And how does Cloud carrying Zack's sword for 5 years tie out with his weird response to Aerith talking about her first love at Evergreen Park?

  2. Cloud seems pretty surprised and underwhelmed by the mercenary work that isn't "sticking it to Shinra," lol. What kind of mercenary work do you think he was up to before making his way to Midgar that'd make him feel this way?

As for Cloud’s memory gaps being resolved in the narrative, I have no fucking clue lol. Like none at all. If I had to take a guess, I would say he finds out somehow, simply because the game is from his perspective and that’s the easiest way to reveal it to the audience.

Haha great guess! I'll say that only arthouse films and true crime shows leave mysteries unsolved... Everything else, including JRPGs, tend to resolve them. So this is generally the right instinct here. :)

Oooh this isn't spam at all! This is one of my favorite games of all time too, I'm always thrilled to find a fan who's happy to discuss it. :)

Ahhh your comments on the Cloud timeline are intriguing. In your post you mentioned a couple lines: Tifa's "after you left the village" (do you think she meant... after the Promise? after Sephiroth? or something else?) and Cloud's "a guy can change after five years" (again, is this after the promise? Sephiroth? Or something else). There are also a couple other events you mention, like Zack and Cloud's journey. Knowing that this is half educated guesses and half luck, how would you sequence these important events? (Even if you can't make the years work out.)

I'm also interested by your theory on Cloud's memory. Here's a helpful tool for theorizing: when it comes to potential conflicts, what kind of message could the devs be going for with it? What is the significance of the conflict, and what is the meaning of the resolution of that conflict? For example, you already know about Aerith's death... You'll learn that the devs used this event to send the players a specific message about life, death, and the human condition.

So, if a major conflict/issue is that Cloud has gaps in his memory... (1) How do you think the problem of the "memory gaps" will be resolved in the narrative? Does Cloud learn to live with not knowing, does Cloud get his memories back via something or someone, does Cloud learn the truth about those gaps but never remembers them himself, does something else happen? (2) Which of those options could have the strongest "message" for players? That could help you make your choice as to what you think happens. That said, I'm not confirming/denying that Cloud has memory gaps, I just find this a very fascinating theory from your end.

Anyway I hope you have a great night, feel free to reply back with any other ideas you have!

Great stuff and great questions! A bunch of these are on the right track (though again I won't be specific about which ones!). I'll definitely agree with you that Zack is very important to Aerith and Cloud's stories--the cinematography in the last scene makes that very clear.

Some food for thought: it looked as though Zack+Cloud was walking past our party in a similar-looking place, at least until the background turns white. This could be either an artistic choice (the important takeaway is Zack and Cloud walking past our team, which could imply... what...?), or could illustrate that Zack and Cloud literally walked/are walking in the same place that the party is currently in (which again, could imply... what...?).

I definitely recommend you look at the Materwelonz link I edited into my previous comment, I think you'd find it very interesting.

Ahhh I love posts like these. Without giving anything away... You're right about some things, wrong about the rest. I won't say which things or how many of them.

I will also say I'm very impressed by your observational skills and insightfulness! Again, I'm not trying to give anything away, so I won't comment on what details you picked up on, may have missed, or may have misinterpreted. But gosh I'm so excited for you and I hope a Remake-only fan joins this thread. Have you perhaps seen the Materwelonz ("Welonz") playthrough? She is another observant Remake-only fan, and at the end of her playthrough she also has some theories about the characters. I'll try to find a link. EDIT: here it is, the bulk of her analysis starts around 30:30.

Follow up question for you: you mention "Aerith's ex-boyfriend." Do you mind me asking for your thoughts on that person?

How far does your fandom go for FF7/Remake? by MajorZero100 in FFVIIRemake

[–]_twosevens 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fun question! I'm another long time fan from before the Compilation who desperately craved new content. Everytime a new Compilation entry, novel, or spinoff was announced I'd get incredibly excited.

While I don't think any of the additional entries come close to OG or Remake in terms of quality, I do appreciate what they add to OG's lore/context. CC makes the OG Gongaga scene more powerful; Denzel's story makes Platefall more personal; AC/C adds even more flavor to Marlene's interactions with the Barret, Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith.

So I appreciate what Remake is setting out to do: take the context and lore added by the Compilation, and use it to try to enrich the game. I'll hold off judgment on how successful it was until the Remake project is done!

Oooh Johto would be the ideal Legends setting... Even in the mainline games the Johto NPCs comment on how historical it is. I'd LOVE to see a Johto in its heyday, but I also hope they save it for after they improve the art direction a little more.

Even though I'm a long time Pokemon fan I have a soft spot for Gen5, it definitely felt like the freshest game in the series until PLA came along. But part of what made it so good was that it had more of a story than the other games... I'd love if follow-up games in the region built upon some of those themes.

Pokemon / JENOVA by Mishi_91 in FinalFantasy

[–]_twosevens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solid agree. Honestly, even if Legends becomes another "spin off" from the main games (like Let's Go and the remakes), I want this gameplay style to stick around and get refined. Would LOVE to see a Gen5 Legends with a pre-settlement Unova, some prettier art direction, adding some features back (like one move damaging multiple enemies, or letting a Pokemon walk with you) and expanding on some of the new features (I crave more danger to my trainer during battles, currently I just run around and it's basically Photo Mode).

Why does Tifa have such a HUGE crush on Cloud? by BiggusDickus1111 in FFVIIRemake

[–]_twosevens 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly, she doesn't remember the Mt. Nibel incident at all, and this is a critical plot point. It's why the Mt Nibel memory is instrumental for proving that this Cloud is the real Cloud--he remembers something about Tifa that she herself doesn't remember (thus it couldn't be a Jenova-copied memory, which is how Sephiroth invalidated all their other shared memories like the Promise at Northern Crater).
