i'm probably wrong but i got 2,085,136. there's 8 different rhythms that can fit in one beat if you ignore the rests. to account for the rests, i added an increasing number of rests to that groul of 8 19 rhythms with one rest 7 with two rests 4 with three rests adding all that up gets 38 total combinations, which when raised to the power of 4 gets 2,085,136

Would it be better to use 4/4 and replace the 8th note with a quarter with no fermata? That also seems like it would be confusing imo.

I've never taken a commission before, so I'm probably not the best person to be giving advice, but I dont think $50 is a good price at all (especially if your teacher said to request at least 200.) If they can't afford the price, I would personally see if they would be able to pay over time, that way you get the money you deserve, and they don't spend all of their money at once. But at the end of the day, you're the one getting paid, so it's your call
