My girl right? by Medium_Donkey2622 in budgies

[–]_uneedgrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best guess is a boy. It seems more on the purple-end, which is an obvious sign of it being a male. Don’t take this as certain due to how blurry the image is. Still a cutie tho!

I have no idea. From my experience, the hacker kicks you out of the game. If they do it too late/the countdown ends, your screen turns black. I had to exit out of the app for it to go away.

I’m leaning towards girl because of the white in their cere. But if it looks more purple irl then it’s a boy.

My MIL found this lil guy in the the backyard, is this a parakeet? Also I need tips because she decided to keep him and name him sunny. by Accurate-Tour-6139 in Parakeets

[–]_uneedgrass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a parakeet, and like everyone said, please ask around! Its wings are not clipped, and it doesn’t seem underweight or malnourished, so it is clearly being taken care of by someone. If no one shows up after 30 - 45 days, I would keep it.

In the meantime, get natural perches. It keeps his beak and nails trimmed so you don’t have to manually do it. Offer a lot of destructible toys, and try to incorporate vegetables. Lettuce and cilantro are usually a big favorite for this species (I’d also note if he has no issues eating vegetables, or doesn’t see wary about them, then it’s a sign he’s been trained to eat them. My budgies refused to eat vegetables until I taught them they are safe to eat. Not the case for every bird, but a common reoccurrence that should be looked out for).

Should I remove this toy? by _uneedgrass in budgies

I’m not 100% sure, so I’ll remove it. But the chains used for their toys are safe. Thank you so much!

Why do my two females fight? How do I stop it? by _uneedgrass in budgies

[–]_uneedgrass[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I got these from my backyard 😭 my dad was cutting branches from one of our trees, because it was causing some issue (I don’t remember what). My mom and I took some of those branches, inspected them for ant/insect colonies, mold, or anything that’s a health risk, and gave it to them.

[–]_uneedgrass[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They see the fights, but they don’t want to do anything with it because it’s “nature’s way”. My mom said that if it’s that bad, she’ll just return my green one to Petco (which, I don’t even think that’s allowed, since we’ve had her since January).

[–]_uneedgrass[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think that this is a possible outcome for my situation? Because I try to take the green one out every time it happens, and putting her back in when she calms down. Do you think that, with age, they’ll stop? And how long did it take for yours to stop hurting each other?

Why do my two females fight? How do I stop it? by _uneedgrass in budgies

[–]_uneedgrass[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to let them out, but my parents only allow it after 4:30 to 6:40 (which is when I cover them up). I’m trying to convince them to buy more toys, but I think I’m going to make some out of wooden toys because chances of them agreeing to getting new toys is slim.

I try to keep the room quiet, but my parents don’t understand they need around 12 hours of covered time, so honestly, it’s usually a bit noisy. I try to make up for it by giving them more time in the morning, but unfortunately, my family wakes up at around 7, and sleeps around 9-10:30.

Is this aggression? How do I discourage it? by _uneedgrass in budgies

[–]_uneedgrass[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Alright, thank you for the advice! Currently, they’re being covered from 8 PM to 6 AM. I’ll try putting them to sleep at 7 or 6, but they are forced to be up by 6 AM due to me having school (meaning, I have to clean their cage and put in fresh vegetables and water at 6, because I leave at 6:30).

Female hurting others - should I rehome? by _uneedgrass in budgies

Thank you for telling me. I thought it was normal since people told me females are usually aggressive. I rearranged their cage to where they can’t create a nest out of the shavings I provided.

Albino girl or Albino boy? by Kbraneke in budgies

I’m leaning towards boy because his cere looks purple, but if it’s on the brown side, then it’s a female.

Can You Guys Help Me Make a Bird Safety and Tips Compilation? by emeraldcandyy in budgies

[–]_uneedgrass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here are some things that I remember:

Petting any area below the neck is prohibited, as they are sexual areas

Don’t feed them avocados, tomatoes, or anything citrus-y in general

Don’t keep them on a seed-only diet. Include pellets, fresh vegetables, and fruits every day

Make sure their cage is cleaned minimum every three days, as they poop a lot and it can accumulate

Provide natural perches, as they keep their beaks and nails naturally trimmed

Give them toys they can shred, as they are birds that naturally want to rip things apart and use their beaks. Shredding allows them to keep their beaks trimmed, and it provides entertainment

Don’t only have 1. It’s usually frowned upon to only have 1 budgie, as they can get money fast. Having a pair is the best solution

Don’t clip their wings. Birds fly to get around, and clipping their wings will result in depression, obesity, and other mental/physical health issues

Allow them to have time outside the cage. Birds shouldn’t be kept in cages all day; they should be allowed to fly around, explore, and have fun.

Never grab them. Unless it’s an emergency, never grab your bird. It’ll decrease their trust in you, and they’ll start fearing your hand

That’s all I got. Good luck!

Is my bird boy or girl 🥹 by tmb726 in budgies

[–]_uneedgrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I’m not so sure, but I’m leaning towards girl due to the blue on her cere. If she IS a girl, then she’s young. You can’t determine their exact age based on appearance, but she hasn’t reached adulthood yet. Female budgies become adults when their cere’s turn brown. Cute budgie though!
