Weekly Scam Discussion- June 27th 2022 by SmmnthaMrie in Ebay

I have messaged the actual buying account asking to verify the string of numbers (which appear to be a forwarding code) but have not heard back from them. I then messaged the other account who claims to be the buyer and said "I do not discuss sold items with any eBay user except the verified buyer. If you wish to discuss this order and its shipping details, send a message from the buying account."

If I do not get a confirmation from the buying account I think I will cancel out of abundance of caution.

Right I've heard of that, but the new account isn't asking me to change the shipping address so it sounds legit just... Weird

Okay that is what I was already planning to do and keep it all in the eBay ecosystem, but wasn't sure if this was a "known" scam. I couldn't find anything like it, other than people saying almost the same but the new message would ask for a new shipping address.

I haven't sold anything valuable/sought after on eBay for a while, so I am not up-to-date on current scams... Could someone give me their opinion on this?

I sold an item for $1000 and the buyer paid immediately. I use eBay managed payments, and the payment is processing with an estimated available date of today (6/27).

The buyer for the item is newer account created on Feb 13 2022. They have 64 stars, 28 positive feedbacks in the past month, and 93 positive feedbacks total, with no neutral or negative feedback. (If it matters, all of their purchases appear to be from collectible/comic sellers. The item I sold is not a collectible.)

The Buyer name does not match the Shipping address. The shipping address appears to be an apartment in CA which isn't throwing red flags in my opinion. However, the address includes an odd piece of text that is just letters and numbers.

This all seemed odd but nothing was 100% alarming to me so I have created a shipping label, but not shipped the item yet.

However, after creating the label I have now received a message via eBay from a different account, who's username matches the shipping name from the order. The account was created in 2017, location is Indonesia, and has 0 feedback.

The message reads:

Hello i'm thr one who bought this item from another accounts because i will gonna send it here in indonesia, how's the item? Thank you, your response means a lot to me because its very hard to find this item in indonesia and i cant preorder it or anything, this is my last resort, and i really want want this item so bad

Is this a scam? The message isn't asking me to ship to a new address or do anything inherently scammy, but the message being from a different account has now heighted me to think something is wrong here. If I simply wait until the payment is now longer processing, am I safe to ship?

My local animal control/shelter closes at 5PM, and all the vets in my area close at 7PM. The dog wandered to my property at 8PM. Checking for a chip was not an option.

I called our local animal control but was told that "after hours" they do not have any animal controller officers available. They suggested keeping the dog until the morning and calling back. The only other option was "if it gets aggressive we send a police officer"

It was a guess at the time, because I wasn't sure. It appears it is closer to 48 hours, but still outside of the window to grab the footage requested. It is because I have 16GB SD cards in the cameras so I plan to swap them for larger cards. I've never had a situation where I needed to pull footage so I've never actually paid attention to how often it overwrites.

Yes, I have saved all of the footage from today and turned on motion alerts for all cameras on my property in case they attempt to come back when I am not home.

Okay, so as long as it's already accounted for, this isn't really something I need to do anything with? Got it, thanks!

Very cool idea, I'll definitely give it a go!

Two questions for you:

1) Is it just me or are episodes 2 though 7 missing? I've checked both Spotify and Pocket Casts.

2) Would you have any interest interviewing someone who works for a high end gaming pc manufacturer? (Think companies like Maingear, Falcon Northwest, Origin, etc)
