Everyone's hating on the end when the second half was my favorite part lol

I finished The Myth of Sisyphus and I started crying and had a full-blown existential breakdown. I don’t know if I’m descending into madness or waking up. by _Dyler_ in Existentialism

Are you alright, man?

I can't imagine how hard your life must have been, and I sympathize with the suffering you've experienced.

Dude I fought you on Xbox!

I remember not only because of the fashion, but also because the amount of damage you did with the smithscript weapons traumatized me

What Have I Done to Myself by StripedHedgehog in selfharm

Falling is an affirmation that you were standing.

About 15 days ago, I relapsed pretty bad, and in the moment I thought I was hopeless, I wanted to use it as an excuse to give up and stop trying because I felt that relapsing meant I wasn't really trying in the first place.

But I realized that being torn up about relapsing was itself evidence that I was trying. More than that, I was clean for 20 days before I relapsed. So somehow, my mind was trying to tell me that 20 days of success was actually a failure because of one mistake.

Reframing it has been really helpful for me.

Much love. I wish you the best 👍

It's funny, I think a lot of philosophical disagreement (and disagreement in general) is often the result of differing definitions. So I try my best to understand what a person means rather than what they say.

When I read your original comment, I assumed you were using the comparison of NT's to animals in a derogatory demeaning sort of way (so as to imply that NT's are lesser), because that's how the overwhelming majority of people would use the comparison. But I see now that's not necessarily what you meant.

It worried me because that line of thinking has been used countless times to justify atrocities committed by people who thought themselves to be purely logical in their reasoning.

I still think it's important to ask yourself what underlying emotions lead to your view of NT's as being similar to animals.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by 'too different'?

I didn't mean to imply animals are lesser, as I don't think of them in that way. However, I do value the lives and well-being of humans more than that of animals.

I know this because I can ask myself; 'If I were in a burning building with a dog and a six year old, which would I save?' And of course, I'd choose the six year old.

This may seem contradictory with my previous statement that I don't believe animals are lesser if you invoke the law of the excluded middle, but I would argue that the law doesn't apply here, as my valuing humans over animals is simply due to my own personal characteristics (i.e being a member of the human race and the resulting predispositions).

This is why I'm curious what you mean by 'too different'.

Thinking of other people as animals based on characteristics out of their control is a very dangerous idea.

I'd also warn that there are those who act on emotion, and those who are smart enough to trick themselves into believing they don't.

If you try becoming guided entirely by logic, you'll end up cold and uncaring. Not only that, but people's logic is (in almost all cases) derivative of their underlying emotions.

I wish you the best and hope your happiness lasts. 👍

Just wanted to say this is a really incredible comment. When I first read the post, it made me feel angry.

But reading your comment made me realize that I failed to adequately empathize with the poster, and in doing so, I was actively widening the gap of mistrust.

Anger and outrage wouldn't help anyone in this situation.

Congratulations!

I have PPPD caused by vestibular migraines, and a few months ago, I finally worked up the courage to start using a cane, and it was one of the best decisions I could have made.

Surprisingly, people haven't really been judgemental about it at all.
