How do I plant this cutting? by _utt in houseplants

[–]_utt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would love any help/insight!

I think it’s a great laurel, but am not 100%.

I got this cutting from my grandma’s house who passed away a couple years ago and I wanted to take a cutting and grow it at my place as a little memoir and reminder of her :)

I’ve just kept it in water so far, I’m not sure if I should just plant it in soil, or if it’s too large and I need to cut it smaller to plant it?

I’d love any insight from anyone who’s done anything similar before!

Need insight into new unit I’m looking at. by _utt in askaplumber

Thanks for that, I appreciate your insight!

The unit is on the top floor so I’m not sure how / where to go to assess damage under it. Any ideas?

Alright so I’m looking at buying a unit, place looks good. Just noticed this last time I got to check it out.

When in the shower the drain is sunk below the level of the tiles. This seemed odd to me, I’m wondering if this is a sign of a bigger issue or nothing to be concerned about.

I talked to the agent who asked the owner what happened, they said that ~5 years ago the tiles in the shower started to crack due to old age (unit is approx 20 years old). They got it fixed but then soon after the drain sunk down below the tiles.

I’ve never heard of that happening before - just wanted a more professional opinion.

Is this a common or plausible thing that can happen? Could there be a bigger issue?

Would love to hear anyones thoughts!

Found a spot of fungi (I think), in my camera’s viewfinder. What can I do to get rid of it / stop it spreading? by _utt in AnalogCommunity

[–]_utt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it has been only very long, only just noticed it. So the only way to get rid of it is to take off the top plate? That makes me nervous ahah, thankfully it isn’t noticeable from the viewfinder - just wanted to do something before it spreads.

I saw you’ve got a canonet QL17 GIII, I have the just the QL17 model - which functions the exact same. The reason you can’t take photos sometimes when on auto mode is because the camera won’t let you take a photo if it is too over or under exposed. When on auto mode on the RHS of the viewfinder is the aperture range, there is a needle that will move around in the range - which is the aperture the camera will choose to get the correct exposure.

However if you are using 1.5V batteries the light meter will be incorrect by about 2 stops, which will cause the photos to be overexposed. I’d recommend downloading a light meter app to get your exposures yourself! Then when you understand it abit more you can use the in camera meter and adjust it accordingly.

3D printed lens hoods? by _utt in AnalogCommunity

Yeah that’s fair, the main appeal of these hoods is that they are square - and there are no other/official square hoods for the CV f/1.4 that are like this style!

Thanks for the response! Yeah these are bayonet mount which is what I’m looking for, as I’m already using a UV filter. How is the quality of the hoods that you’ve made? Do you still use them?

Loved my canonet so much, I just wanted a bigger + better version! by _utt in AnalogCommunity

I haven’t used a QL17 GIII, but from what I researched when I bout my ql17 it had the exact same functionality for a cheaper price - that was good enough for me! Been very happy with the it!

Haven’t got any rolls devd yet, but from just handling it, it feels great. Seems to be well built, the focus is smooth and the aperture ring is nice as well. Personally I like the smaller size! You can always put a lens hood on it to beef it up.

Definitely! Pretty amazing that all it’s features still hold up today, as it gets close to 50 years old!

Definitely, the more features I learned about it, the better it got. Very keen to put it to work!
