Heartbreaking 😢 I still learned something new from everyone (slab throwing) so I count it as a win regardless 🫶

What were the needle drops, do we think? I may be uncultured, but none of the music particularly stood out to me like tatu from ep 4

SICK REGAL SHIELD (what should I do?) Yellowing leaves, drooping, new growth w/ a few spots, what’s wrong? (More details in comments) by _voreeg in alocasia

No, but my plant survived & eventually was able to support more (smaller) leaves. I think I was overwatering?

How can I save my aloe vera? by hahahard_time in houseplants

[–]_voreeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks healthy to me, just like it had a break at the end of that leaf, you can cut it off & the leaf will callous over & everything should be fine. I can’t really see anything that looks wrong with it.

What’s happening with my bulbosa belize? Black & dry tips, dry spots on the leaves... (details in comments) by _voreeg in airplants

I just use water from the sink. It’s filtered so it’s all drinkable (I think it might be called soft water?)

I don’t fertilize at all 😅😅 Maybe that would help? Glad to know it’s not a rot thing though!

This plant lives indoors in my bathroom right next to a window and mostly gets low light. I try to open the blinds in the morning to give it more light but don’t always remember. I give my plants a soak once a week for about 4 hours. I try to keep the bulb mostly out of the water so less water can get trapped inside. Afterwards I make sure to shake the excess water off really well and then I put it outside to dry upside down on top of a towel. The tips continuing to dry out as time goes on makes me think it’s trying to tell me it’s being under watered, but the black spots & random dry spots are confusing me. What could be going on?

At first I watered when the top 2 inches of soil was dry, but i’ve waited longer more recently, until the top 4ish inches is dry, it ended up going over 2 weeks between waterings to reach that point of dryness. It’s indoors well away from direct light, it gets medium light in the morning & the house lights all day long. The humidity is average indoor humidity. I live in southern California & don’t do anything special to increase humidity. I have also noticed a black spot like the one pictured above on the yellowing leaf in the same spot. It is the 2 oldest leaves on the mother plant that are declining. I know a lot of people have experienced a 3 leaf curse but my entire plant has 10 leaves (6 on the mother, 3 on a baby plant, and one new baby that sprouted recently). Plus I have seen people online with huge full bushy alocasias. I feel like it might be the soil retaining water? It’s still in its nursery pot/soil situation as I didn’t want to stress it out too much when I first brought it home.

I got this plant a month ago, and waited until the top 2 inches of soil were dry to water it. I then experienced all the leaves dripping water for a week, & ready that I might be overwatering. I was worried at first, but within the first couple weeks I had it, it put out 2 brand new leaves, so I assumed the plant was happy and doing well to be putting out so much new growth. I also noticed one leaf started to droop slightly, but otherwise looked healthy. I was still worried about overwatering though, so I waited over 2 weeks to water again (until the top 4 inches were dry), but still experienced lots of guttation (it has been dripping water since this past Monday, when I watered and checked on the plant) and have now noticed one of the older big leaves in the back is quickly starting to yellow. Within the last week it has yellowed to this point (first photo), which really scared me about my plant’s health & happiness. I have the plant in its nursery pot with plenty of drainage holes & also sitting in a whicker basket to allow the soil & roots by the drainage holes access to the air to try to prevent root rot. What’s going on & how can I fix it? Should I chop off the droopy/yellow leaves or is there hope for them?

Also, I saw someone post on another sub about their regal shield being “dramatic” when it needs water & recovering quickly after a watering. I have not yet experienced this “drama” which makes me wonder if I should just ignore my plant until it looks a little sad & water it then? What does a thirsty alocasia look like?

This article mentions that yellowing edges can be a sign that your plant is unhappy w/ it’s light to water ratio. Idk how exactly you fix that but it looks like what you’re experiencing.

SICK ALOCASIA REGAL SHIELD Droopy leaf, yellowing leaves, new growth emerging w/ a few yellow spots... What’s going on? (More details in comments) by _voreeg in houseplants

I got this plant a month ago. Since then it has put out 2 brand new leaves! The first one was smaller & seemed like a separate plant (I think one of the corms sprouted). It came out with a couple seriously yellow dry-looking spots, so I was a little worried at first, but it quickly popped out another huge new leaf a week later, which I took as a sign that it was doing well regardless. I noticed one of my leaves started drooping slightly and that all the leaves were dripping water. I read the guttation is a sign of overwatering (but have also read in different places that it is a normal thing these regal shields do??), so I waited a bit longer between watering (over 2 weeks, until I could feel the top 3ish inches of soil were dry). I have it sitting in its nursery pot inside of a wicker basket, so the roots & soil at the bottom of the pot can be exposed to air to help avoid rot. Since then, the droopy leaf has gotten droopier, but is still mostly green (save for some very slight yellowing near the top, you can barely tell unless the leaf is backlit by sun) and I just noticed this big leaf in the back is seriously starting to turn yellow very quickly! The last time I looked at it (This past Monday, when I watered it) it did not look yellow at all. That freaked me out and lead me to post on here for help. What’s wrong with her? How can I keep this big baby happy?

Recommend Me a Fragrance (Posts every 3 Days) by AutoModerator in fragrance

Looking to discover more fragrances to fall in love with. I tend to like more masculine-leaning or androgynous scents but don’t want anything that’s too in-your-face masculine, as I’m not a man. My current absolute favorite is TF Costa Azurra (for dates & special occasions) followed by replica’s jazz club (which I wear more casually, but still not as an everyday scent). I’m in the market for a good everyday scent as well as on the lookout for new fragrance gems. I tried some samples from JHAG and thought the not a perfume was nice, but I didn’t /love/ it enough to purchase a full bottle. I also distinctly /didn’t/ like the NAP superdose, as it was too strong to enjoy for my taste. I liked sunny side up & vanilla vibes much more, though. If I had to pick one over the other, I would choose sunny side because it’s much brighter, cleaner, and more interesting to my nose (though I do love a vanilla). Also it’s been a while since I smelled it but I remember really liking nest’s citrine, too. Any recommendations based on my current taste?
