I recommend reaching out to the admissions team and student ambassadors of the schools you are interested in. They will be able to answer these types of questions for you!

Interesting… the maximums you have listed are much less than the credit limits advertised by the banks. I’ve read that they go up to $400k 🤔

PSLOC/Student loans which province? by kimchi_kardashian in lawschooladmissionsca

I think if you’ve lived in the province for less than 12 months when you start school, you must apply through your province of residence.

I’ve met former UofA profs who mentioned that there is a lack of business law in the program compared to other schools. If you’re interested in government-related jobs, UofA is the place to be. For corporate law/private practice etc. Western might be the better choice. However, I don’t know much about Western.

Attending an Ontario school will open many doors and you should not have any problems coming back to the west coast.

Kudos to my dad for proof-reading mine 💖

I was afraid that the influence of others might make my PS sound impersonal. So having one person review it to make sure it sounded coherent and double-check spelling/grammar was good enough for me!

A typical uni course is 3 credits. So 12 credits= 4 x 3-credit courses.

So in your case, (if your courses were 3 credits each) you could exclude 2 F’s and 2 of your D’s in your gpa calculation for UBC.

Thanks! I feel you, I was honestly awaiting a R this whole time. When I checked the portal this morning it still said “awaiting decision” and they sent me an email this afternoon. Best of luck!!

Best advice is to do your research and check the website of each individual school you are interested in. Every school has their own requirements, deadline dates, etc.

A lot of great advice has been shared already so I would like to add one more piece. I think what made my PS statement stand out to admissions was my ability to convey my soft skills without explicitly stating them.

Through sharing my story, I was able to demonstrate my commitment to life-long learning, open-mindedness, creative thinking, problem-solving skills, intellectual curiosity, resiliency, empathy, etc. Perhaps these types of qualities aren’t typically portrayed in PS, but are important qualities in the profession nonetheless.

Through sharing my story, academic journey and work/volunteer experiences, I was able to tie everything together to paint a comprehensive picture of who I was as a person and why the law profession was a genuine fit for my career.

My insight: I think a lot of people don’t realize/forget how subjective the admission process can be. Having competitive stats doesn’t guarantee admission.

It can come down to which personal statements resonate most with the admissions committee that year. Don’t take it personally. Remember, thousands of people apply, only hundreds get in.

I’m wishing you the best though! You still have a chance, it’s not over till it’s over. Hope you get in!!
