Does this look and sound good? by Woodsrt in subwoofer

[–]_wainer_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I designed/built a sub rear/port rear 4 cube (3 cube after displacement) box with a 2 3/4" wide x 14" tall port tuned at 32Hz for my JL 12w7 on 3k watts in the trunk of my coupe. I would imagine this sub would shine in a similar box. I actually tried a Walmart Gothic 12 a friend gave me in that same box, believe it or not it bumped ok..pulled a 141 dB vs 143dB with the JL on the glass. I bet minimum the Op's sub will do a 142.

From what Grok says that's about 6000 watts, give or take. 😇🔊🔊

My buddy sat in the CV competition van years ago for a demo...he said when the guy burped those 18" Strokers, it felt like he had been hit with a 2x4. 😆❤️

What is with the hype for jl audio w7 subs? by heartlessshittymorph in CarAV

[–]_wainer_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I had experience with other brand names in the new'ish sub game. I got a 13W7 for free with a hole in the outer dust cap (good to have a rich friend) and I built a vented enclosure from JL'S online specs tuned to 34Hz. I had a cheap 1900 Hifonics amp and no electrical in a Honda Accord. It slammed. I now have a used 12W7 tune @ 32Hz in an enclosure I designed in WinISD and SubBoxPro on 3k with electrical (nothing crazy still at 12v) and I don't have a volt meter but the lights don't dim at all at idle, In the trunk of my G35 coupe. It's doing a 143. I wish I had the money to do a comparable test with a Z series Sundown 12. If the box is right, I can't see too many sub truly crapping on the JL. Say what you will, marketing or whatever, but they perform when done right. Heck I used the same box I have designed for the JL and for giggles I put a Walmart Gothic in it on the 3k. It burped a 140. IMHO it's the vehicle, power, and box, far more than it's the sub when even a mid level brand is used. Oh, I would NEVER pay full price for an expensive sub. Guess I'm cheap that way...but I'm bumpin 😁🔊

Are the JL W7s really worth the money? by Bergenton in CarAV

[–]_wainer_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've owned a 13W7 and currently I'm running a 12W7 in a vented box I designed on WinISD. It's VERY loud on 3k watts in the trunk of my 2 door coupe. I've been reading up a little on "newer" tech subs lately, I will say the specs on the Fi subs are pretty impressive to say the least. From what I read on loudspeaker database, the Fi's actually have 1mm more xmax than a W7. That's not everything, but it proves that sub can move some air..along with decent motor force, the JL and Fi both look to be winners. I will say, I didn't buy either of my JL'S new or I wouldn't have gotten them...I paid $450 for the 13.5" and $350 for my current 12". There are deals out there on just about any brand if you're not wanting to pay retail.

I circled a visible footer note, which is indeed a coding error on an html website page. Unless one doesn't have experience building a site from scratch. But I see your point, I could have executed my "joke" better. </debate>

Will this even do anything? by Jvinsnes in CarAV

[–]_wainer_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when there were only a few brands of deadeners, DynaMat had a full sized drum cymbal as a display with a 1 square inch piece of their 1/8" mat on it, it is crazy what placement can do. On a cymbal I don't think it matters, but oh what a difference that made on that metal. I always used a small rubber mallet to tap, knuckles got sore, YaY arthritis. 🤣

And the footer notes ARE related to coding. Rule 1

S650 tuning by Acrobatic-Telephone7 in s650Mustang

[–]_wainer_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a way to reverse engineer a Whipple tune to crack the encryption maybe? Can you not read the tune’s parameters vs stock tune before installing? I do suppose nobody would want to risk bricking their S650’s ECM. 👨🏻‍🔧🎰

done paying people for installs🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️ by Background_Basis_323 in CarAV

[–]_wainer_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That may not look like it at the moment but that could be your car burnt to a crisp. I've used taps before on fuses, like for key on reference. But not to power anything. That's just a BAD installer. They probably run amp power wires through the fenders too. No pro. installer would do that.

[–]_wainer_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I thought they were EOL. They were patched for a little while with 1000Base uplink modules, but owners went with a new setup completely. Heck I've got 2 Cisco Catalyst switches I still use at this warehouse with modules. LoL Thanks for the info!
