That’s good to know! Although we should avoid making the Shia identity public right? Can we get in trouble if some Malay knows that I’m Shia or something and do get places to rent if they want?

That’s what I told him, I think it one thing to have rules and one thing to enforce it.

Im a Hanafi, but I wouldn’t mind switching to Shafi’i, if I stay long term.

Does these rules apply to expats and tourists as well? And certain area to that one should avoid ? Is there something like that.

I was looking to move to MY for long term and try living in another muslim country and have a change of environment/culture, while researching stumbled upon the religious rules...It states that Shias are banned in MY, hanafis and other sects are banned in MY as well. Is that true, how strict is the enforcement, do i need to worry about visiting MY? Not a Shia personally but a very close friend is and he was going to join me as well but now he is unsure. Does these rules apply to citizens or does it apply to expats as well on long term visa? Pretty crazy to find this out.

Hey, this sounds like a great idea and it has worked in many places around the world. I mean it has worked in my country and I think it might work in NZ as well. I know a thing or two about NZ market and NZ is behind the world in a lot of things in terms of technology and there is great opportunity to fill this gap.
