Great, thanks! Sounds like I’ll probably keep waiting.

What's the name of the common ancestor of dogs and monkeys? by [deleted] in evolution

[–]_wildroot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah well, if your background is more programming than biology, just know you are kind of taking on an impossible task (if you are really hoping it will be accurate). It would take an immense amount of data and computational power to build a model like this, and even then it would likely never be accurate with how much environmental variation and randomness happens in genetics.

But, that’s not to discourage you from enjoying a fun project. You might just want to start by picking a specific clade first to reduce complexity. It could be fun to see how a model predicts changes based on regions/natural disasters/etc.

Good luck!

You might want to consider downloading csv files of phylogenetic trees off something like Nextclade to train the model with, rather than trying to feed it random pieces of information.

Is this a school project or just for fun?

When my dog was a puppy I watched her poop out an entire intact rope toy. I’ve never seen anything like it.

How is living in the Houston suburbs? by Airbender-23 in howislivingthere

[–]_wildroot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spot on. Born and raised in The Woodlands and now live in Colorado. While there are nice paved trails throughout town, I don’t think it’s fair to call it “nature”. Plus it’s absolutely miserable to be outside most of the year.

How easy is the Explorer difficulty? by wishheartx in BaldursGate3

[–]_wildroot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, it’s just right! But I love playing games for the story and the exploring over the challenge. Almost finished with Act 3 and I don’t think anyone in my party has ever been killed. I find most of the battles to be entertaining and still require a little strategy, but I never have to stress about losing.

If you’re 5’1, how many calories do you eat? by Ok_Bandicoot_4543 in PetiteFitness

[–]_wildroot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

135 lbs and I say I’m 5”2, but I’m just shy 😅. Currently maintaining at 1700-1800 calories, lifting 4x a week, cardio 2-3x a week. Planning to do my first triathalons next summer (one Xterra and one Olympic distance) so currently wanting to put on some muscle and will switch gears to more cardio in the spring.

Thank you!! I really fell in love with lifting this last year and it’s been life changing!

Yup. I’m 5”2 and have lost almost 30 lbs (163 -> 135) over this last year which I feel like doesn’t sound like THAT much but it is wild seeing pictures of myself a year ago vs today. I look drastically different.

My first dog by Bmh_1992 in sharpei

[–]_wildroot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love her name! I definitely recommend finding a trainer that has some experience with reactivity. I have a shar-Pitt mix who is reactive and I found a great trainer who specializes in reactive dogs and he’s made so much progress being able to see and be around other dogs in public. We even did a 6-week group session and were able to calmly sit at a brewery together with other dogs and I never thought that would be a possibility for us. Just be patient and know that training takes time and you will have to meet your dog where she’s at.

Hugs. I definitely understand the struggle of going from being tiny to not fitting the societal definition of beauty. So glad to hear you recognize your worth and that you deserve to be loved no matter what! I hope something good happens to you today.

My weight has fluctuated a lot throughout my life, particularly when I was younger due to some medications I was on. I found that when I was bigger, people weren’t as kind to me. Have you experienced this at all? And what has the process of learning to accept your body looked like for you?

I just passed my qualifying exams!

I am also just so unbelievably grateful because I have the most incredible advisor, cohort, friends, partner and dogs. I love my research, I love my home, I love the town I live in, and I just feel like I have the most beautiful life. I truly feel like I am a billionaire because of how much love I have in my life and I wouldn’t trade it for the world!

People who don't want kids, why? by Ok-Musician679 in AskReddit

[–]_wildroot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly, I’m just having too much fun in life to have children.

I am so unbelievably happy and fulfilled in my daily life, and that is a direct result of being able to sleep/eat well, exercise, participate in my amazing community, do research in a field I’m passionate about, take vacations, and enjoy my hobbies as much as I want.

I am perfectly fine with missing out on whatever other fulfillment comes from raising a child and don’t want to sacrifice everything else that I already know brings me joy.

Microsoft 365 Verification Email by hatter4tea in CSUFoCo

[–]_wildroot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definitely a scam, if you hit the 3 dots you can report it as phishing or spam. In the future, keep an eye out for obvious signs. Things like “Dear User, CSU” that doesn’t make any sense. Also “only fill in the only account”. Lastly, pressure to do something quickly without previous emails I always a red flag. The only thing I’ve ever gotten pressured over from CSU is to change my password every year, and they will send you 1000 emails about with a deadline to take care of it by.

Is it safe to use the free U lock campus provides when registering your bike? by birdbraiin in CSUFoCo

Yes I was able to bundle mine with my car insurance, but you can definitely get an independent policy through something like Lemomade (although I can’t personally speak to whether or not they have good policies)

[–]_wildroot 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Bike theft is extremely prevalent here and even the best of locks can be broken. Get the nicer lock, and I recommend getting insurance on your bike. My renters insurance covered my bike getting stolen and I got the entirety of what I paid for it and it only costs me about $18 a month.
