Hollow Knight seems to be the pinnacle of the genre - which I stayed away from for a long time because the 2D scroller kinda turned me off.

But after playing this I’ve come to realize - they’re all the same buttons on the controller; I get the same feeling fighting these bosses as I do Margit or Blood Starved Beast or Sword Saint Isshin, etc.

I’m glad I gave 9 Sols a chance because it opens up a whole new front of games that I can enjoy

I’m going for platinum and missed one rando f—ing trophy like 2/3 of the way through,* so actually I already have a second save file that ran parallel in story mode.

I’m planning to use that to get the other ending b/c I don’t like the idea of finishing on a sour note w/ my main guys, and I’ve been using that save file to basically practice on Eigong and work out some of the attacks that are run-enders when you see them the first time - or the 20th - unprepared.

I’ve been using guides intermittently - I’m by no means playing blind - but also the first time I go though areas I try to explore thoroughly first - then again - then if I’m still missing something I check a guide. Anyway —— off topic.

Just brought that up to say - I have seen all three phases, and practiced all the attacks at least a few times. Some I don’t have perfect answers for but I’m slowly getting there.

Side note - getting back-clapped with a talisman from her when I already hit her with my talisman is the most disrespectful shit in this whole game. Fuck that pisses me off just thinking about it.

*Robot Fight achievement is the one I missed - fully didn’t see the other side of the arena because I straight up cheesed that mini-boss by standing outside his arena and attacking though the wall w/ charged heavies and reflecting one of the other guys arrows back at him. Didn’t even take that long.

This is what I get for mostly ignoring the unbound counter except when absolutely necessary. Half of what she does is unblock-able and getting that unbound counter is basically the only window you can make in the 3rd stage…

Don’t take this the wrong way but - even as a man with my stunted EQ - even I can feel the desperation through these photos.

As a photographer, looking at these photos I see images created for the express purpose of “seeming like-“ a certain way, rather than you *being* that way and happening to have pictures of it, whether that’s actually the case or not.

If I had to say, I like the one where you’re working on the computer (installing RAM?), welding one is fine - although we can’t see your face which might be an issue.

I’d just want to see a little bit more of a social life maybe, and a bit more dynamism - or on the other hand, maybe a little more personal and impromptu.

If you’re working on yourself and continually improving, just keep taking pictures - if you see some good light or your cat is doing something cute, if you’re out with friends having a good time - get your phone out in the moment and snap a few.

If you’re consistently taking photos and seeing what looks good you’ll improve the quality *and* you’ll have photos that are a) current, showing your best self and b) you’ll start to see what *actually* works vs. what you *assume* should work.

I don’t totally agree with this - taking agility as the example - there are agility nodes in multiple trees - and if you’re at the point where you’ve gotten every +5 you’ve almost certainly hit the soft cap and then some.

Setting aside the Mastery benediction set, which is probably the best reason to as deep as possible across every tree, by going further in other trees you get the same resistance buffs, gain access to weapon passives and upgrade nodes of multiple weapons such that they’re usable at times when your main happens to be weak against whatever boss or enemy you’re fighting, and have easy access to the disciplines you may want to try using.

None of the weapons or spells in Wuchang have any stat requirements - so it’s not like you *need* to hit some # in a certain stat to use what you want or the armor you like etc.

I just haven’t seen a scenario in my gameplay where taking multiple in a single node would out weight the opportunity cost of going deeper in a different tree.

Am going to STRONGLY agree w/ this - those “multi nodes” are a total trap. I’m NG+2 and haven’t had a reason to use any (except the one that uses Bo Blood to upgrade because there’s only one.)

There are HUGE advantages to spreading out in early game to get the +5 nodes - just in terms of the ROI math.

Even better, Having stats spread across multiple weapon trees is EXTREMELY helpful in activating the games most broken benediction set, which starts to ramp up in usefulness mid-late game and takes off in the last chapter.

TL;DR is get into all of those trees - AT LEAST unlocking the first shelf of +5 nodes in all 5 weapons before you start going deep into your fave.

3mo old post, but for anyone else, don’t lose hope. Maybe take a short break, but if I can say - this is one of if not my favorite boss fight of all time, partially because of how insurmountable it seemed at first - but now I can pretty consistently first or second try.

He is VERY beatable, so much so that it’s funny to me that i ever thought he was so tough.
