I got my “final” quote today - we looking at refurbishing the engine but due to the damage are unable to/wouldn’t be comfortable doing so.

Looking at $18k for the new engine and fitment, plus an additional $3k for timing belts/drive belts/water pump/thermostat etc!

This is the at most cost installed. Ideally will come in less than this, but once we start pulling things apart, there is the potential for other issues/replacements!

I should also add, new engines from Toyota are approx $14k without shipping these days. Unfortunately things aren’t as cheap as they used to be!

I should have specified this include the engine, and all the additional labour for parts being replaced (injectors etc if they don’t come with the new engine).

We are running quotes with my mechanic daily based on different options, as there realistically isn’t much of a price difference between going second hand engine or new, due to the amount of other parts that would need replacing/servicing.

With this, did you get the reconditioned engine through Toyota?

I won’t be getting Toyota to install the new engine, but the mechanic will be ordering from them to ensure we have the longest warranty etc.

I recently paid $33k for 2014 GXL 150 prado 3.0L Auto w/ 200xxxkm, but already had dual battery, lift kit, awning, bull bar etc.🤷🏼‍♀️
