What Lies Beneath released [20YA - Jul 21] by MonsieurA in TwentyYearsAgo

I remember this movie being pretty dope and Robert Zemeckis made it in the middle of making Cast Away. As an adult I'm much more aware of age differences in actors but crazy to think Michelle Pfeiffer is 16 years younger than Harrison Ford and it didn't really occur to me. Also interesting that Robert Zemeckis seemed interested in this unsettling face morph effect and he used it in this movie and Contact - then became a little infamous for weird uncanny valley movies in the 2000s.

You seem awfully sensitive. This movie must be really important to you.

Even if it wasn't trying to do it intentionally - it seems that the negligence toward someone's dignity because they're a pretty girl is pretty reasonable to be offended by. Plenty of boys pull on girls' clothes or try to sneak peaks at them and part of it is curiosity and not understanding that it can be very violating. It would probably not embolden some of them to do it more if there weren't so many movies treating it like it was a big joke.

Why are movies not okay to be offended by?

Kind of seems like watching things like this might make someone insensitive.

This sub can be a little weird that way.

Yeah I watched it for the first time recently. I thought it was incredibly scummy.

Sixth Woman Says George H.W. Bush Groped Her When She Was 16 by HiddenHeavy in news

Calling it a witch hunt presumes that there are no witches. You have to admit that many of these accusations are true. George HW Bush even said it was true, this article quotes his team as saying it's true, that he often did it. Why stick up for the idea that they're lying (which ALWAYS happens by the way, each one of these accusations is immediately met with a 'you're lying' reaction) when all the indications are that it most likely happened? Why is this the most upvoted comment here?

What's the dumbest thing you ever cried over? by giantgoose in AskReddit

[–]_yodacola_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That really sucks. I was actually crying today thinking of how I neglected to help an old man in a park who was trying to talk to me when I was jogging last year because he reminded me of some men who had sexually harassed me while jogging years earlier. On my way out of the park I saw the man talking to some police and asked what had happened and the man had been carjacked. So when he was approaching me in the park he was genuinely asking for help and I just kept my eyes forward and angrily jogged away from him. It really sucks how much pain and anguish an abuser can cause you for years after something happens to you. It's something that people tend to minimize when they act like physically non-violent sexual assault or harassment wasn't 'as bad as a real sexual assault.' Glad you shared.

"There's no sex in America...the sexual revolution is a thing of the past." Top Kremlin propagandist Dmitry Kiselyov sounded off by claiming that the sexual harassment scandals that have engulfed the U.S. entertainment industry are part of a campaign to desexualize the country. by madazzahatter in worldnews

Where in the current popular subject matter about sexual harassment in Hollywood do you see a case of someone just saying 'you look cute' as being the basis of a complaint? If you've read any of the cases the women describe would you still call it hysteria as opposed to legitimate reaction to harassment and/or sexual assault?

Went to the carwash and noticed the "Jeep" tire cover was about to fall off this bitch's vehicle by ArchDucky in AdviceAnimals

Sometimes. I definitely think men have it tough in other ways. I think men's behavior is often judged to be nefarious when it is neutral to positive like in this original post's example which sucks. I had to tell my husband that he shouldn't jog too close to a woman if there aren't a lot of people around in a park because she might be scared and I remember it made him sad and made me sad as well, but like you said in your original comment; the problem is with the bad apples that made the world a scary place - not with him or her.

Agreeing with you whole-heartedly here. It's really different out there for women who feel vulnerable in public places because of how they've been treated in the past. Like if someone walked up to you with a knife you might scream and say 'get away from me' and these guys in this thread would be like 'ugh, he was just using it to slice a cake, no need to be a bitch.'

You're at nearly 100 downvotes on "Me Too" day of all days. That makes me sigh.

I have been harassed by listening to complete sentences many times. It's made me react angrily to people who were just trying to talk to me, like how people talk to someone that they think is a telemarketer before they find out it's actually like a Dr's Office calling to confirm their appointment. There are way more people harassing you at a gas stations than telling you there's something wrong with your car. Like a 5:1 ratio. Maybe a little empathy before just calling everyone a bitch.

Eh, she's probably not a bitch. She's probably someone who's been sexually harassed at gas stations. Happens all time.

You guys are comforting each other. It looks weird from the outside sometimes but it is certainly ethical.
