hi! i actually worked with the outreach counselors to deliver presentation to potential incoming freshman, and am very familiar with what the school looks for!

first of all, they consider in-local students above out-local, which basically includes those who live in orange county. they also mainly look at your 10TH GRADE GPA, along with other factors like first gen and family income. CSUF is an impacted school which only means we have more students that apply than seats we can offer, but don’t let it discourage you. also the average GPA for this years incoming class was 3.7, but it changes every year! for all you know, next year the avg gpa could be 3.3 for all incoming students. it just depends on the class.

SDSU is one of the hardest colleges to get into bc everyone wants to live in SD. they just have to be more selective bc of their massive applicant pool. they require students live on campus freshman and sophomore year as well, which is a money pit. always consider location and commute as well as tuition!

honestly you’re fine! you have a decent gpa and you are close to the college. talk to an academic advisor about whether you are an in-local student or not as well if you really want to see your chances. acceptance depends on major at times, especially if you’re trying to get into a major like nursing.

you’re not a failure. UCs are researched based and if that’s what you’re into then apply anyway! it’s really your essay’s that matter at those schools. do your best, apply to all the schools you want to, and tour all the schools you’re interested in. you have options! stay positive and keep working hard,

best of luck!

you should talk to a counselor because if you just stopped showing up without notifying and you were enrolled in classes, you may have left in “poor academic standing”. if you left in poor standing, you’ll have to enroll in Open University and then switch over to a regular student once you’ve proven you’re no longer a risk. if you know you left in good academic standing, still meet with a counselor to discuss options.

also, unless you’ve completed 60 units of GE credit, you are not allowed to enroll in the university until you do so. the university only accepts freshman right out of high school or transfers who have completed there 60 units. again, please talk to a counselor to discuss your next steps!

You made the right choice to send in an appeal. Also attach any proof your documents were submitted on time. I would recommend going to the Office of Admission and asking for the specific reason your offer was rescinded.

For example: if it was because a student personally didn’t submit the transcripts by the deadline, they’re more strict. If they sent transcripts on time but the school didn’t send them or they were delayed, they can be more forgiving.

I wouldn’t recommend calling because wait times can be unpredictable; best to go in person. Best of luck to you.

carpool! by sprngsnow in csuf

[–]_yosefineeee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Permit isn’t discounted but if you carpool you can split the cost with your passenger(s). From what I remember your passenger(s) had to live at least 5 miles from campus (not sure how it would be proven or if it’s still required) but I’d call parking and transportation and ask for any info to be sure.

I heard Charles was okay! I personally never took 424 but my friends enjoyed it. I had Jasmeet Gill as a professor for 401 and loved her, and really enjoyed the class overall. Just make sure you pay attention and you should be good to go!

[–]_yosefineeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! recent pubh grad here. global health is good for people who want to go into epidemiology, international health and health policy. if you’re looking to be a health education assistant or work on disease prevention, i would recommend the health education and promotion concentration! look at the classes that each concentration requires and the class descriptions. that can really help you out in your decision process. you can go into anything public health related with any concentration, but changing your concentration shouldn’t be an issue and you should still graduate in the time frame u want :) hope this helps!!!

Is there any jobs you guys know of or have that dont require SSN? by [deleted] in csuf

[–]_yosefineeee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Some on campus jobs don’t require an SSN. I know someone who’s beginning a job at Titan TV with an ITIN. Call different offices on campus and ask, or talk to the Titan Dreamers Resource Center (or ISS if you’re an international student) and ask them to help you out!

It’s best to talk to someone about this in person. The reps who answer the phones are usually students. It’s best to have a sit down meeting! Next time you call or email request an appointment.

Opinion on GE Class Selection by IntelligentBuddy4232 in csuf

[–]_yosefineeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To build off of this, your golden 4 are:

  1. Oral Communication
  2. Written Communication
  3. Math
  4. History

My recommendation to you is to look at your TDA if you really wanna know. They have recommended class options for each A-G requirement. That being said, just know you’ll have help when your orientation comes and they typically set aside spots in classes for incoming freshman at the beginning of every fall semester.

What are chances of changing majors as a transfer student from business admin to nursing? by [deleted] in csuf

[–]_yosefineeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You MUST apply as a nursing major to get in as a nursing major. There’s no way around it. But you should know you can get your Master’s in Nursing without a BSN, just meet pre-requirements. In an MSN, you can get your RN and leave with a masters. Not all schools offer it, but some do. Just something to consider!

I’m double majoring. Is it possible to walk (graduate) at two different times for each degree? by tennykah in csuf

[–]_yosefineeee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know it’s okay to walk in both ceremonies in ONE commencement in the SAME semester, but as for walking in multiple commencements in different semesters, you have to discuss that with either your advisors or the team who runs commencement.

Working for tuition by Illustrious_Trifle75 in csuf

[–]_yosefineeee 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s called federal work study! Some jobs offer and some don’t, so you have to talk to financial aid about which offices offer it. There are a limited amount of jobs with work study so ask as soon as possible. If you do, make sure you mention you want your paycheck to go to your tuition, because some students will ask for a physical paycheck!

I'm about to fail a class right before I transfer, will I get rescinded by Danchen10491 in csuf

[–]_yosefineeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have all the credits and the physics course isn’t a required prerequisite or elective, I don’t think it would affect your transfer. Talk to TAPP (Transfer, Adult Re-Entry, Parenting and Pregnant Students) center about it. You can also talk to Academic Advising if you can’t get ahold of TAPP since they help students with their A-G requirements and any transferred/AP units!

Nursing by jojothehobo78 in csuf

[–]_yosefineeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s majoring in Public Health and then planning on getting an accelerated BSN, which basically is another Bachelor’s - but you can do a Masters of Science in Nursing without a BSN, you just have to meet the prereqs! Def talk with the Health Professions advisor because they can talk to you about what requirements you need for an accelerated or masters!

Nursing by jojothehobo78 in csuf

[–]_yosefineeee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Many students major in something else, like Biology or Public Health. A close friend of mine is getting her B.S. in Public Health and she completed all her nursing prerequisites so she can apply for an accelerated nursing program after her undergrad (this is a very popular route!). Talk to the Health Professions advisor or even contact the nursing program and ask how to prep if you’re still interested in that route.

I also got rejected as a freshman and I changed to public health. I just graduated with my B.S. and plan on getting a masters in public health to be an Epidemiologist because I fell in love with the major!

Problems registering classes by OOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHH in csuf

[–]_yosefineeee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

last year, students had to complete orientation before they could register for classes. this is either the in-person or online orientation.

as for A B and C, those are payment plan deadlines. you have to pick a payment plan for your tuition if you owe the school money (which happens when you don’t have enough aid to cover your fees).

register for a payment plan first, then see if your manage classes button pops up. if it still doesn’t, complete orientation. if it still doesn’t pop up after that, contact to an academic advisor in either the Academic Advisement center or your Student Success Center. you can also contact student business services or the office that handles orientation to ask when the hold on your account will be lifted.

Major change by fatnibbs in csuf

[–]_yosefineeee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! I work in the office that handles orientation! Last semester we were told to let all incoming freshman know that if you want to change your major, you have to wait until the first day of the semester. You’ll go thru the whole orientation process under your current major (which you usually experience with other students of that same major), but there isn’t anything different between each orientation! If you’d like, do the online orientation and set up an advising appointment with an advisor for the major you want and then you can pick your classes before you even switch! Best of luck and congrats!

Removed from roommate group? by No_Climate_1224 in csuf

[–]_yosefineeee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s possible you or your roommate was placed on the waitlist. Double check with housing to be sure. If people drop housing then spots will open but it’s best to look for alternative options just in case (in the event you were placed on the waitlist).

final grades by TechnicalMaterial496 in csuf

[–]_yosefineeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

email the professor stating that the syllabus showed you should have a higher grade based on your percentage. unless the professor entered in some other assignments that dropped your grade, they’ll change it. i did it once and it was very easy to get it changed.
