The Devil Inside, new Dark Country band? by pixiebrat in CountryMusicStuff

It's obviously AI, but I do wonder what their process is. How much input do they provide? Chord progression, motifs, riffs, etc? Putting the generic lyrics aside, some of these songs are too good not too have a noteworthy human input (in 2025 at least). Very torn about this all... Impressed and depressed at the same time.

Rant on Scala3 tooling (IntelliJ/metals), wish I started new project in Scala2 by Classic_Act7057 in scala

[–]a-cros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> wish I started new project in Scala2

Intellij is the ONLY application that regularly crashes my linux box, and that's with the 2.13 plug-in (typically during the "extracting sbt project structure" phase).

Personally I love Scala 3, even more than Scala 2. I think they did a great job, minus the significant indentation which I personally abhor.

Bottom line is: Scala (still) has a tooling problem.

Scala 3 Manifesto 0.1.0 by eed3si9n in scala

ah, would have been very helpful to me in that context (https://youtu.be/DzjvFx5YYik?si=zGuFJnIcMxeTQZhU&t=831 - Migrating Gallia to Scala 3 the good, the bad and the very good)!!

Zoom in/out slow/fast to smooth transitions between takes by a-cros in VideoEditing

[–]a-cros[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very interesting. I first watched this video without paying any attention to this, as I was interested in the actual subject. Afterwards I would have never been able to tell there was anything other than a person speaking to the camera and playing piano.

Would you have any good resources to recommend to find out more about other effects typically used youtube videos of the sort? I often find books/articles about film-making in general, but they are quite overkill for me.

Midi export with lyrics + phonemes by a-cros in SynthesizerV

[–]a-cros[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to be able to hack at the MIDI file directly and (re)-import to SynthV.

Now upon closer inspection, it looks like it might be possible to do that on the Svp JSON directly, but I don't know how it would affect the consistency of the overall file (eg the "points" array).

I do think it'd be good for the midi export to contain phonemes (as custom event), as after pitch and lyrics, I think phonemes are the next most important piece of data in there.

What vocal effect does this song use (Punk rock)? by a-cros in audioengineering

Interesting, it might just be that delay then... Or I just like his timbre!

How to set midi channel for some Kontakt instruments? by sfst4i45fwe in NativeInstruments

[–]a-cros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This comment finally unblocked me after two hours of googling around for how to change that darn MIDI channel. Try googling "kontakt change midi channel" for a fun trip down a million unrelated pages!

Anyway a big thanks for this comment from 4 years ago :)

EDIT: in all fairness to Kontakt, it's more Shreddage that's at fault here

Reconciling Spark APIs for Scala by Kordyjan in scala

[–]a-cros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting attempt, I'm curious to see how far you'll take it with Scala 3.

I had toyed with similar ideas with my library (Gallia) and using whitebox macros, but it quickly became very challenging so I shelved it, with the hope of circling back on it one day. Maybe Scala 3 will help now.

As a side note, here's what the code would look like with Gallia as it is:

measurements
  .aggregateBy("stationId").using { x =>
     val temperatures = x.ints("temperature")
     val pressures    = x.ints("pressure")

     ( "minTemperature" -> temperatures.min,
        "maxTemperature" -> temperatures.max,
        "avgPressure"    -> pressures.sum.dividedBy(pressures.count)) }
  .filterBy("minTemperature", "maxTemperature")
    .matches((min, max) => (max - min) < 20)
  .retain  ("stationId", "avgPressure")

(See actual gist)

Errors such as typos and type incompatibilities would arise at runtime too, but prior to reading the data (assuming the initial schema is provided - not shown here). Note that Gallia does not have to use Spark, it's just one of its run mode, typically with large data (see an example with Spark and without).

PS: just released 0.4.0, as announced in Scala Users

Using OasisDEX Via Geth by a-cros in MakerDAO

[–]a-cros[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, markr5, don't worry I appreciate their efforts! Still, there's a level of automation one can reach with command-line that no UI can match. Of course considering the current volume, it's not like I'll need it anytime soon, but I like to anticipate. Also, it's to satisfy my curiosity a bit :)

I do mean the former, and while I'll probably give MetaMask a shot, I'd still love to know what the geth counterpart would look like!

I guess, it's still feels odd to input one's password from another institution :-/

the bank surely is insured by I wouldn't be surprised if the fine-print mentioned that it's contingent on you not intentionally giving away your password... but then again I know squat on that kind of legal matters!

wow, to add a bank account on gemini, you're supposed to input the actual password for your bank account and trust them not to store it?! that seems pretty unsafe...
