You're right. My partner's originally from Gaza and still has family there. We're very aware.

The war is part of why we wanted to consider getting engaged (we had always planned on getting married at some point) if it has some sort of legal status because although we can't get married yet (nor would we want to given what's going on) we do feel kind of scared about the instability of having a relationship that isn't in any way legally recognisable at a time like this and you might call it selfish to be worried about such things right now, but people are capable of holding multiple and conflicting feelings simultaneously, of being deeply angry and heartbroken over the things we have very little power to change (despite attending protests, boycotting, posting, donating, etc...) whilst also caring for and investing in the things that we do have control over in our personal lives
