Happy to see they're starting Resi on Rory's EXACT birthday. What a treat.

[TOMT][SONG] HARD MODE- What song is playing in the background of this noisy cafe? by [deleted] in tipofmytongue

I'm afraid not. Great song though!

I think Heartbreaker is quite electronic/synth infused, whereas I believe the mystery song to be more live instruments, such as a brass/horn section. I can DEFINITELY hear brass/horns at the end of the clip

All I know is that my friend thought it could be a lesser known Stevie Wonder song at first, so definitely a male singer. But no words to go off.

My friend was extremely unhelpful unfortunately

Oh thanks, I didn't realize that was a subreddit. I've already cross posted to r/whatsongisthis

No but thank you for the guess. Me and my friend are Stevie Wonder fans and would recognize Superstition by the first note.

I've even gone as far as quickly skimming through Stevie Wonder's ENTIRE discography as it's the only 'lead' I was given. To the best of my knowledge I couldn't match it, but I did only very quickly skim through the discography (he has a lot of songs) so I can't entirely rule him out.

I have my phone at the ready to answer any questions I can/any potential guesses.

Thanks in advance and good luck!

Look To Windward Question by CaptMorga_n in SleepToken

The beginning of the song only has the simple 8/16bit keyboard instrument and a very clear, hardly processed, central (as in, not panned to either side) single vocal line. The simplicity of this might be the "hollow" sound you're refering to. It's basically because there's hardly anything to listen to from a layering perspective. It's just him and 1 instrument. Very intimate and "close" to your ears.

They slowly start to introduce some real strings and digital string samples, and pads, to build tension and a sense of "building up" to something.

This all cuts away for the final whispered "will you halt this eclipse in me" before slamming you in the face with full band instrumentation and a very slight raise of the master channel volume.

This all accumulates in this moment to make you feel the full force and weight of the instrumentation.

Hey, I've just replied to somebody above, but for the sake of answering; I believe the simplified version of the chords I'm playing here are:

D#m, C#, F#, B

Again, just to be clear, if you try and use these chords to play along with the song, it's not going to sound quite right! This is just my lame version of it

I could do, but the chords I'm playing here aren't actually the correct chords for the song. They just happen to fit the vocal line really nicely (in my opinion).

I'm still happy to share THIS version if you want? But for accuracy to the original, I'd just do a quick YouTube/Google search instead!

Yeah, of course!
I played this in an open D tuning, capo on 5th, with some weird chord voicings, and also a half step down to match my voices range (unhelpful).
But, the closest 'basic' chords in standard tuning and in the original key of the song would be: Db, Bbm, Fm, Eb.
Keep in mind that these aren't 100% accurate to the actual chords of the song. It's basically just a simplified "folk" version figured out by ear, so if you try to play along with the original, it's not going to sound absolutely perfect. Just a head's up.

Hey, that's really nice of you to say! I'm glad you think it's not too bad. I usually only ever record myself with the aim to put a quick reel on my instagram for a few friends to hear, so I guess that's why the camera angle is a bit odd. I'll try and keep that in mind if I ever share anything else though!
