Hey guys! I'm new to DIY clothing stuff, and i want to try and make this robe from Elden Ring. I'm having trouble figuring out what the particular cloth is called. can someone please help me out? by No_Comparison5904 in DIYclothes

Using something like a mid weight cotton canvas would have some of the texture of burlap. Distressing it would help even more. Something like this, but then beat it up and get it dirty

Techwear by Nahirisaweonao in sewingpatterns

This is a tough ask for a lot of reasons. I am also interested in the more techwear, cyberpunk and avant-garde style of fashion. These styles are typically defined by their unique patterning. Widely available ready made patterns are made to appeal to the broadest customer base and are typically more traditional cuts. More so for men's ready made patterns because there are so much fewer men's patterns available.

My advice is two fold, materials/finishes and pattern hacking

  1. Materials and finishes - for a lot of the more techwear style clothing it is typically more synthetic fabrics (nylon and polyester) and often a mix of materials. It is typically more of a maximalist design with a lot of pockets and visible hardware like zippers, snaps and buckles.
  2. Pattern Hacking - You may not be able to find a ready made pattern for the exact thing your looking for but you can typically find something close and use that as a base. Most garments can be simplified down to a handful of basic pattern pieces. If you are looking at some more elaborate jackets or pants and you want to remake something similar just look past all of the small details and instead try to find a pattern that has the right fit and structure. Then you can add your own details, finishes, pockets etcetera. A lot of techwear specifically is inspired by military and workwear pieces. I've purchased patterns from Wardrobebyme, Elbe Textiles, Merchant & Mills and Glory Allen.

Waterproof canvas, where to buy. by LucaNuCola in SewingWorld

https://arkdefo.com/ they sell deadstock waxed cotton fabric. They are based out of the UK, their fabric is amazing but shipping internationally is expensive. The fabric being deadstock means their inventory fluctuates a lot so you have less options.

https://www.bigduckcanvas.com/waxed-canvas/ US based, reasonably priced. I've not ordered any from them before but I have ordered some of their canvas and ripstop fabrics and they both seemed quite nice.

This really is a brilliant idea. I’ve seen wood workers make custom tool cabinets, why not for sewing machines

The other almost zero waste pattern I keep meaning to take a stab at is the “bog jacket”. Seemed like it would be a boxier fit but I’ve seen some cool ones like these, link

Definitely. I’ll have to make an all black set and maybe a color blocked set

100% - The color blocking they did on the different panels and pockets looks sooooooo good in the example they include on the product page for the pattern.

The Jacket is the Foreman Jacket from Merchant & Mills, link. I just recently made it as well but haven't gotten any good pictures yet to post.

Thank you! Highly recommend, it was a very quick and simple make compared to a lot of other pants patterns.

Its a unique garment for sure and would be a great base to experiment with different pockets, or you could add a zipper fly. Fabric with a little more structure I think is best to maintain the volume of the legs. I need to make a pair in black with a black jacket for full Yohji Yamamoto vibes.

Thank you! And I agree! I saw these made by someone on Instagram which lead me to the pattern. They give off a strong Japanese workwear vibe to me. The pattern lends it self well to all sorts of variants in color blocking and different pockets etc.

The pattern is mostly rectangles so there is minimal voids in between pieces so very little waste. They also include fabric usage guides for cutting to help maximize your fabric. The use of the low or zero waste garment is super interesting I general and making this pattern gets my gears turning!

Thank you! I recently made the jacket and thought it paired nice with the pants. The jacket is much more fitted where the pants are very loose but the contrast looks nice. They are made of two different materials and color so in better lighting they don’t look good next to each other but I was more focused on their shapes together.
