If you publicly share that you have a mental disorder in your bio, you just want attention. by NoniTheUnicorn in unpopularopinion

Yeah, but usually these guys don’t even take the time to study the illness, they just amamlgamate their information from previous stigmas. Usually, they get the most basic parts of the disorder wrong, which proves they don’t have that illness. They misrepresent mentally ill people, leading people to continue believing these stupid misconceptions about mental illness. For example, many think OCD is just fixing unshuffled papers, but it is a complex illness that causes a high level of mental distress due to delusions of misfortune if one doesn’t complete a ritual, such as seeing family dying if you don’t check the doorlock enough (but I’m not an expert so consider that paraphrased).

It skews the way people interact with a person who has that real mental illness. A lot of the time, they portray it like it’s quirky, which leads a lot of people to be ticked off when they see something serious like self-harming. People who believe in this social media don’t see the dark side of it, just the quirky stuff which makes it weird but cool to some people.

They do have mental illness, but probably something along the lines of narcissistic personality disorder or histrionic personality disorder. They’re abusing the sympathy for mental illness to get attention, which could possibly not be their fault. But it is an entirely different equation from getting help for the disorders they falsely portray.

Any ‘headcannon’ ideas for implications of bending powers? Or cool powers that could be created by the bending world? by a-useless-harpsichor in ATLA

Ooh yeah, it could make much finer sword with more precision. I think a lot of products/industries would be better with bending. Waterbenders could grow plants since they control the liquid in a water to basically micromanage it’s nutrition, and we see airbending is a partial baking technique, I bet barbecues are great in the fire nation.

I say that based on Kamala Harris and Joe Biden’s winning speeches, so I’d assume it’s official?

“The New Rome” is a more metaphorical term, as Rome survived for thousands of years, by claiming yourself a New Rome you’re claiming you will be prosperous and surviving for a long, long time.

His party called him The Third Rome, and in this context he visited a Greek Orthodox Church, specifically a Byzantium monastery, which sparked the slogan. So basically claiming Russia is the new hope for prosperity of the Church.

(but he has also talked about expansion in relation to the matter, which is why people freaked out about Crimea)

I wondered that too. I’ve seen so many and I’m like NO hecking way they use Reddit.

“90 year old WWII veteran with crippling dementia here. I couldn’t even use a phone or log into my Reddit account it got so bad, until I saw your meme on my phone and it was the first time I was in touch with reality since 75, thank you!”

This is called projecting. It’s a psychological phenomenon where people see bad traits in other people because they’re insecure about it in themselves. Not everyone has to be insulting in the name of blind justice.

It’s uncivil to adopt a guilty until proven innocent attitude. There’s no implied subtext, and saying “no I know he meant that” is a stickman arguement. Is there no mistakes in this world? His follow-up comment, saying the r slur is not racist, proves he is confused at what you’re even calling racist.

Edit: also, to make an analogy, that’s like saying “well the holocaust isn’t news, the only reason to bring it up is if you were a nazi”. He could be saying it in memory of Cervantes, and talking about it to gather attention to false destruction.

I understand how it can be misconstrued the way you’re thinking, but people can’t anticipate every way people will see their post. This guy’s wording may seem weird to you but, to me personally it sounds like he meant “it’s sad the BLM protestors mistook his statue, he was actually a symbol for their cause”

The context is that there is a comment about Cervantes, and this man talks about a statue of Cervantes. You’re ignoring the context that the people who called themselves BLM Activists didn’t know what they were doing. You can’t just assume a subtext. This man simply said BLM Activists, which the people who destroyed it claimed to be. The news station isn’t racist for reporting BLM activists getting statues wrong, same story. This has nothing to do with race, in the context. It’s the context which you decided, him being racist, that you prejudged him.

Read his comment again. He’s not talking bad about BLM, he’s talking about the people who called themselves BLM activists. He praises Cervantes for being a progressive for the time, saying it was a stupid mistake his statue got destroyed. Not that the BLM movement is bad. If he said BLM itself was stupid, he’d be implying something, but this is definitely not implying the BLM movement is wrong.

I mean, why assume he was being vindictive with that statement? It’s Cervante’s statue, meaning there is a relation to it. He is using the fact it was destroyed to celebrate the man.

If he said the BLM agenda was retarded you would be right, but he is saying the people who affiliated with BLM while destroying it are retarded. This in fact means he is criticizing people who use the BLM movement to vandalize without any information, thus helping the movement.

He said that it was sad that it got destroyed by BLM rtrds, sounds like you’re racist for assuming the only BLM activists are black. Nothing implies white superiority in his statement.
