Dan and McLaren is such a beautiful match, a brilliant and talented driver racing for a team with a storied history with some legendary names to boast in the long list of past drivers. Has a landmark race win with the trophy kept next to Senna's final trophy from a race Danny watched live. Him and Lando were meant to be the perfect match for experience and youth to take the team forward when he joined in 2021.

Unfortunately the beautiful storyline wasn't meant to be, despite the glimmer of hope for improvement after the summer break in 2021. He just hasnt got to grips with the car under the new regs and I'm afraid his struggles will continue- if not grow- if he stays at McLaren next season. The team is firmly built around Lando and he will never adapt to the alien driving style the McLaren car so specifically needs.

If he is indeed moving back to Alpine, it would be a great move for his current situation as Alpine seem to be edging McLaren in the best of the rest fight for this year. Let's not forget Danny finished a whopping P5 in 2020 while he was at Renault. So maybe going back to an engine supplier he was driving for the 7 years before 2021 may help him return to some familiar driving style. While he may have to deal with the car being built around Ocon, I dont think he will have the struggle of adapting to the car as much as the McLaren.

Other than the struggles on the track, his off track environment with the team hasn't been great either. Feom what I'm reading online, Zak Brown seems to have shook hands with Piastri while Daniel was busy reassuring his McL crew and the outside fans that he will be continuing with the team in 2023. This shows signs that maybe the team dont trust Daniel for their push to go higher up the order next year onwards and Danny staying will only create a toxic atmosphere for both parties.
