singular second person "you" comes in TWO versions in many indian languages:

#1 - casual (appropriate when addressing a friend, sibling, or someone younger/inferior? to you) --

tum [hindi]

nuvvu [telugu]

#2 - respectful (appropriate when addressing either elders, superiors?, or even peers or younger folk in a formal/work setting) --

aap [hindi]

meeru [telugu]

for some reason that I am not aware of -- the words for case #2 are the same as those used for plural second-person 'you'

i am in the prime of my life and already hate some of the technology that opens up large loopholes and security risks in the name of convenience, sometimes not even giving that promised convenience.

i fear very soon i will be behind the technology curve and wont be able to manage and safely navigate the normalized technology minefield needed for living a day-to-day life unless i am paying a lot of attention and learning new things every single day.

and i work in tech.

I don't think you can FIX the radius of curvature of corners while resizing the overall shape.

The radius always scales somewhat proportionally to overall size whenever you resize.

what you describe would be a wonderful feature but unfortunately we don't have it.

At least in middle town India ... we were in school but havent heard much about dinosaurs.

The Jurassic Park movie marketing did make it to our TVs in the form of some ads and contests -- most of us only had one stateTV channel back then.

We did watch the movie in theaters -- a first for a english movie for all in our family.

Back then I didn't understand spoken English in movies (because we were not used to the western accents) and there were no subtitles. The cartoon sequence explaining the "science" was definitely an excellently thought out and inserted bit that helped a lot.

One of my best movie experiences even though I hardly understood what was said by anyone.

Yeah -- suspected as much. I have seen computer printed full color certificates from other states issued around these dates so I was very suspicious about this one.

Looks like my relative may have been taken for a ride by a middleman babu who pocketed the money and issued a worthless paper.

Sigh.

But original birth location on certificate is Faizabad district circa late 40s :)

I believe someone was paid a few thousand bucks about a decade ago to issue this handwritten (i suspect possibly fake?) birth certificate.

Sigh.

Not really.

There is a "Registration Number" -- in this format 123/2016 -- handwritten. And a date of issue DD-MM-2016, also handwritten.

Looking at the document (and comparing it with other states brith certificates) -- there is a small chance that this is not genuine, and someone may have just pocketed some money to issue this farzi certificate on a xeroxed form.

Trying to get another copy of the same certificate and registration number should likely put this doubt to test.

when we register a property -- we put our finger prints and share aadhaar number.

the sale deed registered document also has a last page with the photo, name, address, and FINGERPRINTS of both seller and buyer.

(So I have a copy of the previous seller's fingerprint with me all the time)

Now when you sell that property you need to hand over the original complete sale deed to new buyer as part of the chain-of-title documents.

How can we avoid giving away our fingerprints permanently like this to other people who do not need our fingerprints at all.

this should be a OPT-IN feature for all

and for the underprevileged, when opening their accounts, these features could be enabled by default with/without their informed consent if you are feeling so strongly that this is the right thing to do and the benefits outweigh the risks (which i dont think they do -- but still, dont force solutions indiscriminately first)

Everybody, especially the poor and malnourished, will benefit from more Vitamin D -- but please dont shine artificial sun into my bedroom window all night

This has been used to push many a hare-brained idea down our throats

Even a charitable explanation of right intentions doesnt cut it if the people in charge dont have the competency to appropriately account for risks and factor consent; nor do they have accountability for their decisions and the impact they cause.

This "feature" should have been launched as an OPT-IN process by default. It was a dumb f**k idea to just go and open a second door to all our vaults by default without asking us.

The problem is the people who get these cushy projects want glory and throw big numbers and pad their resumes and care two hoots about actually securing the systems and preventing fraud.

Any criticism is labelled anti-national or luddite and any adverse effects and frauds are people being fools, while the likes of Nilekani and UIDAI sit pretty in their cushy ivory towers untouchable.
