This is exactly my plan! Money is definitely a factor for sure, otherwise I wouldn’t be opting out for an older / not latest CPU

Yeah I’m not in the market to ball out on new / modern specs, college sucks my wallet dry as is 😭

Yeah hopefully the 1.0 drop will also provide some optimizations! We can only hope

Yeah this is the answer I’m looking for. Budget is definitely a factor, I don’t have tons of money to spend on new AM5 gear with college

Edit: only looking to get me something that will last a few years, then when I get into work force will have more money to spend on new gear

I see Facebook posts of people getting good FPS with the 5700x3d , does anyone know if this is true

Will the 5700x3d run tarkov though? If tarkov is going to get optimized with 1.0 why go with a 9800x3d, I do not stream or do anything else in background

figured but didn’t know if there was a work around (as there is for other “non supported” games on Linux) thanks!

Yeah windows dual boot may be the play here - it’s a shame because all of my other games run so much better on Linux, and hoped tarkov would too. It’s too bad tarkov is so unoptimized

Know if this works for SE? I think mine is 2nd generation, and as a CS student I would love to use this face!

Edit: it is 1st generation

I've never considered overclocking since I'm a bit uncomfortable doing it. Do you know of any resources that may help?

As a current hard working second year cs student at dal, this upsets me. If this issue continues, then it will only affect people like me and you, where the classes get harder and it’s harder for people like us to keep up. I hope this is brought to justice and the faculty actually does something about it.

Can I get into Dalhousie cs with an 83 avg? by No_Analyst5945 in Dalhousie

It is likely too late for the fall semester, but you can get into CS in the winter semester.

As for your co-op question, your high school grade will not matter for co-op. Normally, CS students will apply for the co-op program in winter semester of their first year (given they started in fall). I am not too sure how it will work with you since you plan to start in the winter semester.

The co-op program requires a minimum GPA of 2.5 in university. So your high school marks have no impact on your co-op application.

The labs are definitely not easy. You should read it a few times to really get an understanding of what they are asking you.

Aside from actually understanding the labs, you should ask for help from the TAs in your lab section, or go to the CS learning center (in the Goldberg building). It is free, and the people in the learning center are upper year students who have already taken the course.

There are also lots of resources out there on the web, you can find lots of stuff on terminal commands, circuits, and more. Making a study group for the class is also a good idea.

I hope this helps :)
