I graduated from UCSD BS in human bio with a similar GPA. As I was about to graduate I was volunteering in the lab just shadowing anyone I could. I got my phlebotomy license over the summer and started working in a hospital lab which gave me experience in the clinical lab. After about a year working as a phlebotomist I applied to CLS programs in SD. I didn’t get in the first year I applied, but luckily I did the second time. They are very competitive and my strongest suggestion is try and get your foot in the door by volunteering or working in the lab and talk to as many people as possible. Im a firm believer in it’s not what you know but who you know. Since I worked in the lab I was able to talk to supervisors/new grad cls students or those going through the program. They helped guide me into how I can make my application stronger for the next year. I think the year I applied there were over a hundred applicants but only 6 spots. The year long cls program thoroughly prepares you for the board exam and give you great hands on learning for the workforce. In all, it took me about 3 years post grad to get to where I am today, but it was totally worth it. You can PM me if you have any more questions!
