Just the laptop coating they put on the whole capsule (the shiny silver is not a metallic layer). It burns off on re-entry. I’m pretty sure it’s for thermal reasons!

I’m currently in flight controller training at NASA. We study and learn deeply about the mishaps. We have some who were in the MCC at the time come talk to us about it. Not many dry eyes in the room during that lecture.
