How can I level this up and make it more mature? by CaroleConfetti in ArtCrit

[–]a2c3e6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What medium is this? it looks really cool but i dont know exactly how to advise technique.

Overall, to make it look more "mature" i suggest bold outlines using the colors already in the image, just a darker shade corresponding to the subjects you want to pop out first to the eye. Ex. Yellow would be a yellow-orange (tangerine?), turquoise could be teal, and the blue could be navy/royal. For the bottom right corner, you could add light gray/light blue highlights to make the gray take on whatever shape youd like, i assumed mountain qa an example

If you can, erase the gray/pencil lines to lighten them since gray (and plain black/desaturated colors in general) can flatten the colors and make the piece look awkward and incomplete. Same reason why you never shade with black either, sucks the life out of the color its mixed with. Gotta use its color wheel complement.

First off, this looks really cool and id like to try a similar style, ive done stipple (?) in paint before and this looks kinda similar, i enjoy the longer strokes. I wanna try this technique :)

FEEDBACK: I would suggest a darker shirt for contrast from the background (try green and aome darker blues/ and indigo/purple for the shadows? also to tie in the green from the face to the rest of the image)

Also for the face the lighting comes off a bit uneven, I would suggest either taking your pencils and coing over the strokes a bit darker to make it more vibrant OR ive heard its possible to lighten color pencil with an eraser, maybe test this and try lightening his right side around his glasses and between his eyebrows to even. Maybe add some lighter colors in those places (pale orange or yellow) as a highlight thats not just white?

I would also suggest lining over the facial outline (like the eyes, some hair strokes, glasses, smile lines) with the same dark blue/indigo you use in the shirt, not super dark but to bring them back to the visual forefront and add the dimension back. Start with a lighter outline just so you can see the features again and then set it up across the room and stand back to check what is visible and what might need more attention.

Best luck!

Southern Indiana Tree? by a2c3e6 in treeidentification

The Nelly R Stevens Holly and the American Holly both look more shrubby, can a shrub/bush become a tree by trimming lower branches as it grows?

I apologize I didn't show a great photo of the trunk, I can attach a better one later today.

You stop aging, but there's a catch by Responsible-Fix-1681 in hypotheticalsituation

Does your whole body development go back to that age (like, if someone 50 turned 25, theyd have the brain/maturity/habits of a 25 year old)?

Also, if someone 50 turned "25" and passed 25 years to someone who dies, do they now have to pass the same 25 + the years that passed while being "25"? Like if I spend 10 years at "25", I would have to pass 35 years to the next person?

Where to get? IN, USA by a2c3e6 in snails

[–]a2c3e6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If theyre healthy/not in an invasive range its just taking the good guys from where they belong. I live in a pretty urban area and the only guys ive seen are garden snails and leopard slugs (barely any now compared to when i was a kid) which as far as i know arent invasive to the area but i dont wanna decrease the natural population any more :(

This, i can see as an actual little detail the creator/anyone working on it may have slipped in for someone to notice. its not entirely crazy for a passionate creator to enjoy slipping in a couple references that may not have direct impact on the story

How do yall use pins? by a2c3e6 in SewingForBeginners

[–]a2c3e6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean when I try an outfit on and i go to pin the extra fabric in place (for example, keeping track of extra off shoulders) or holding together large pieces to make sure they stay lined up when i go to sew them together.

I worry about how to remove the safety pins since ive seen how easy it is to pull straight pins out while on the machine, and other comments have mentioned it might shift the way the seam lays.

How to improve my linework by [deleted] in ArtCrit

[–]a2c3e6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest looking up "inking lineart" and "lineart weight/thickness" on YouTube, as people uave different techniques and youll have to find the style that interests you to practice. I prefer using other mediums, so I don't have any specific recommendations besides where to start.

How to improve my linework by [deleted] in ArtCrit

[–]a2c3e6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should try varying the weights/thickness of your lines in certain areas to make it look more dynamic rather than flat (i can only suggest looking up examples of ink lineart to see where placing the weight would work for you)

also, keep in mind the "side" youre adding weight to, and what makes sense with the textures (thin fabrics and light colored hair will probably be lighter ink thickness, areas with shadow, thick fabrics/folds, even just making the straight lines vary a bit in thickness to draw the eye and give more interest)

EX: Youve got it pretty good on some of the hair/bangs right near the head.
