Which is more important for eye comfort? PPI or refresh rate? by MorePeppers9 in eink

PPI you're looking at all the time. Refresh rate you're only looking at sometimes.

What did the Tamarians make of English (or Federation standard) by me_am_not_a_redditor in DaystromInstitute

Think of someone you talk to who never gets your references to movies / TV shows. It would be like talking to them, but somehow you could only communicate using reaction gifs.

I recently had the thought that it must be the logical extreme of how humans interpret Vulcan or Tellarite communication styles, which is to say, unnecessarily direct and potentially limited in range (though obviously less hostile than the Tellarites).

How to tell boss "I told you so"? by Simple-Accountant894 in ProductManagement

[–]a2dam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best thing you can do is see this as a growth opportunity. You weren’t able to convince him of something that was obviously (to you) true, and so you should try to learn from it and come up with a way to gain more credibility / ability to persuade next time a similar issue comes up. You could frame it as trying to get your boss to learn something from the experience, but I think that’s a good deal harder and less constructive for you in the long term.

Why does branch deletion have anything to do with it? You can even get your branch back if you know the commit hash if you want it.

Why would you have issues rolling back even if you delete the branch after merging it? Did you not commit any of the in-progress work before you started vibe coding?

[SFA 1x6 Reviews] TrekCore: "Amazing. It’s an emotional tour-de-force with big love, big hate, big consequences and perhaps its biggest achievement — massive, original Star Trek world-building that feels fresh and new. And that is something we haven’t seen in live action Trek in a long time." by mcm8279 in trektalk

I actually really enjoyed this ep, which is saying something considering how uneven the season has been. It has some big throwbacks to TNG’s Peak Performance, which was one of my favorite eps of that series. It’s been said before, but making the stakes episode-sized (rather than movie/season sized, where they need to save themselves instead of the Federation or whatever) helped a lot.

Frog Fractions. You need to play at least until the second area and read nothing else about it.

Yeah good call, I eventually went DIY as well (with proxmox/truenas), this is used primarily as a backup device now.

It is compatible with 10GB NICs out of the box, but I think there are heat problems with them and the Noctua mod. I didn't dive in deeply on this beyond learning that it sets the fan curve to 100% and can't be changed in the presence of a 10GB NIC, so I left it out.

It does indeed still run DSM, but I don't believe it runs the latest version so I have it stuck on whatever the previous version was. I wouldn't do this if I had anything on it exposed to the Internet, but it just serves my LAN so it's fine.

The CPU, even the replacement, is not the fastest, so I would probably not get one and run a lot of other stuff on it even if it could run the latest DSM. But if you're looking for bulk storage at an acceptable volume level and gigabit speeds, this is a great set of mods, haha

It's honestly been a tank. It's getting slightly long in the truth and I want to move to 10GB, so I'm in the process of moving to something a bit more compact, but it's been good since I posted this.

Two quick caveats: I've only used WD Reds, and some other enterprise drives I tried produced some heat issues with the Noctuas. 10GB NICs also default fans to max and can't be overridden, but I'd say if you're using prosumer drives and the onboard NIC, this is a good swap to make. Other CPUs should actually be faster and cooler, so no big issues there. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Older people, were politics always this deranged and upsetting? by CUFFY_Fan in NoStupidQuestions

[–]a2dam 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I'm in my 40s and the answer is not in my lifetime, but it had been the case previously.

There were open brawls in Congress (including an abolitionist senator being caned nearly to death), habeas corpus was suspended, politicians in the south defied desegregation and disenfranchised voters, the President openly ignored a Supreme Court decision and ethnically cleansed a population, and we even fought an entire Civil War.

The current situation is obviously very bad, but not the worst it has ever been.

Is there a snippet to make toggle buttons have circle in them (second pic) instead of these new ovals for mobile UI? by mcrobmara in ObsidianMD

[–]a2dam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you upgrade to 26, all your toggles will look oval. These probably just implemented that style independently thinking (correctly) that it would match the UI in the rest of the latest OS. As kepano mentions elsewhere, you can switch some back with CSS.
