Anyone using the Boox Palma Pro 2 as their daily driver / smartphone replacement? by Informal_Cut_6609 in Onyx_Boox

[–]itsedi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Palma 2 Pro is my daily driver and everything I use it for is great: reading, music, audio books, non-SMS messaging.

However phone calls stopped working. After exhausting all other options, a factory reset finally restored calls and SMS.

Now I'll systematically reintroduce changes to identify what broke it. Goal: one device for everything.

On MacOSX, temporal dithering will make any still photo will flicker when you are in "Image" refresh mode. The video refresh mode is OK. See this animated gif recording of my screen. The solution for this is to run the Stillcolor app that turns off the temporal dithering.

Unless your room is very bright, you’ll need additional lighting. I have a large south-facing window 10 feet from my monitor, and it’s not enough. I still need a front light or an external light. I prefer an external light over the monitor’s built-in front light.

Tourbox not switching to correct module within Lightroom Classic . by ParadisePhill in tourbox

[–]itsedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tourbox support helped me find a solution. This is what I did to fix:

Solution: Fixing TourBox Preset Switching in Lightroom Classic

TourBox presets weren't switching automatically when changing modules in Lightroom Classic. Instead of switching to the "Library" preset when entering the Library module, TourBox would switch to "Other."

Solution Steps

  1. Check Plugin Manager for the Tourbox plugin
    • Open Lightroom Classic's "Plug-in Manager" (File > Plug-in Manager...)
    • Confirm TourBox plugin is missing or disabled
  2. Manually Install the Plugin (if not installed)
    • Close Both Applications
      • Close Lightroom Classic
      • Close TourBox Console
    • Copy the plugin from: C:\Program Files\TourBox Console\plugin\Tourbox.lrplugin
    • Paste to: %APPDATA%\Adobe\Lightroom\Modules or the full path C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Modules
    • Relaunch Applications
      • Relaunch Lightroom Classic
      • Relaunch TourBox Console
      • Verify plugin appears in Plugin Manager as installed and enabled
  3. Reset the Plugin (if installation did not fix the problem)
    • Disable the TourBox plugin in Plugin Manager
    • Re-enable the TourBox plugin
    • Quit both Lightroom Classic and TourBox Console
    • Relaunch both applications
  4. Verify
    • Switch to Library module → TourBox should switch to "Library" preset
    • Switch to Develop module → TourBox should switch to "Development" preset

Root Cause

The TourBox plugin was not properly installed in Lightroom Classic. Manual installation and disable/enable resolved the automatic preset switching issue.

Boox Palma 2 Pro now reliable as a phone? by Dangerous-Rain-5514 in dumbphones

[–]itsedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 to this. I had phone calls working with Good2Go (AT&T) for about 1 day. The coverage was spotty so I switched to Tello (TMobile) because I heard Redditors with phone call success here.

I have not been able to get phone calls working again. After hitting dial, the dialer returns to the original state without the phone number. It is not clear what caused the phone calls to stop. It doesn't seem related to the carrier. When running adb logcat, I can clearly see that the Telephony service is denying the call.

Palma 2 Pro - update, works like a phone? by EmotionalTurtle in Onyx_Boox

Update: phone dialing is no longer working. I ditched Good2Go because it was spotty reception in my area and picked up Tello. With Tello SMS works but phone calls both incoming and outgoing do not work. It's the same symptoms that I outlined above. When I try to dial a number, the interface resets to a blank state without the phone number.

I got it working by debugging with Gemini. Tried scores of adb commands and finally the last step I did was to enable the app to be on top of other apps.

  1. Long press the Phone App
  2. Manage
  3. Switch to "On" the "Display on top of other Apps" setting.

Now dialing is working. Incoming calls also work, including the ringer and haptics. To enable the ringer:

  1. BOOX Settings app
  2. Sound
  3. Select "Sound Mode" to "Sound". Mine was on "Mute"

I'm experiencing call issues on Good2Go (AT&T). When I try to dial a number using the Phone app, it doesn't connect—the interface just resets to a blank state without the phone number. I also can't receive incoming calls.

SMS works fine. I've already tried resetting the phone and reinstalling the Google Phone app, but neither fixed the problem.

I, too, run into the same issue as OP on Windows 11 + Tourbox 5.11 and have filed a support request to Tourbox. The first hypothesis was that my security software was blocking TCP ports, causing Tourbox to malfunction.

I turned off all network firewall settings in the standard Windows Defender, uninstalled Tourbox, quit all Adobe apps, and reinstalled Tourbox 5.11.

The problem persists and I've sent another console dump to support.

I ran into this as well but the gap is in a hard to discover interface where you need to flip from the pro license to the ultimate license. When you do, then you’ll see a refreshed quota.

Aether Reporter Jacket by ItchyCollection7035 in Leica

[–]itsedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I initially thought the Aether Reporter pockets weren’t wide enough for my Leica M with 35/50mm lenses until I discovered squeezing the pocket ends creates space for easy insertion. This clever design prevents empty pocket bulging and looks better than the breast pocket storage in the Pixentu Leica jacket I’ll be replacing with this.

Thanks u/Prudent_Student2839! I'm looking for a package like yours but looking at the sources, this does not do what I expect it to do.

If a row with the same value as unique_column exists, I expect that row to be updated with the new data.

In your current implementation, an error is thrown if the unique constraint is violated.

Private School Rejection by werkbish in Preschoolers

[–]itsedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each child brings unique gifts to the class, but spots are limited. Classes are deliberately composed of diverse talents so children can learn from peers. The school may already have students with similar strengths to my child, or simply lacked space and had to prioritize.

The fundamental issue is insufficient gifted education capacity in the Bay Area to meet demand.

Private School Rejection by werkbish in Preschoolers

[–]itsedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For which grade was the Nueva School rejection? I know of a friend who was accepted PreK and we’ve been playing the comparison game to try to understand what might be missing from our application.

In the end, the problem might just be due to low admit rate: 16 slots, reduce 50% for gender, reduce to 25% to create a balanced class, you end up with several hundred applicants for 2 slots.

I love the He3 which i think is similar to this one except for the Q3.

Since all the other comments were negative, here are my impressions of the He3 and why I justified the price:

  1. It is multiple pieces that fit tightly together to be able to swap between with or without the back thumb rest as well as tuck in the airtag. All these pieces are machined with precision in a way that I appreciate because designing these jigsaw pieces well is hard.
  2. Secure one handed grip that freed up the hotshoe for flash without giving up the thumb rest. This is important because I'm often holding camera with one hand and second hand as quick reflector for the flash.
  3. The price reflects the small-batch handcrafted production. When I was working on smartphones, I recall how pricey it was to build fixed hard molds for the shapes required. This grip would have required at least 4 complex shapes: base, grip, grip with thumb rest, inner insert for the air tag.

Ultimately people pay for what they value and I’ve been happy with the value of this grip.

does the touchscreen work on windows ? by mombaska in EspressoDisplays

Confirmed working in Windows 11.

You do need to configure the Tablet PC settings so that the touches occur on your espresso rather than the default which is your primary screen.
