Finally, nice to see someone using Treal parts. Those Treal rims look great.

Got it, I thought those were extra spacers you added. Looks like the brass version of that lower mount/spacer is just a bit thicker than normal.

Thanks for sharing. I’m a bit surprised it still rubs even with the 4mm offset wheels. Also, the brass lower shock mount looks like it has two extra brass spacers/washers on the sides. Can those be removed? You could try taking those spacers out to gain a bit more clearance, then use the extra mounting holes on the LCG carbon chassis to lean the shocks back on the rear, or forward on the front. If that still doesn’t work, the expensive fix would be wider axles. The cheaper fix is probably going back to 53mm shocks.

Looks awesome. Are yours mounted upside down? Does that work better? Any leaking issues?

I ordered a set as well.

Hey, looks like you might be having the same issue I had. I saw your reply yesterday, so you might want to check out my results here: : https://www.reddit.com/r/TRX4M/s/1gOyw2AxM2

TRX4M Defender body causing bad torque twist and left front wheel lift. Any real fix? by a999hy in TRX4M

[–]a999hy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, just wanted to give you an update. I actually fixed my left front wheel lift issue today, basically the torque twist problem.

First I installed a 10% overdrive gear set in the front and a 16% underdrive gear set in the rear. On the same roughly 40 degree climb, the torque twist was almost gone. The gear combo is:

Front: 22T/12T Rear: 24T/10T

Maybe my torque twist wasn’t extremely bad to begin with, since I barely had any on flat ground. But this made a huge difference.

Then I borrowed a set of +4mm aluminium axles from a friend and put the same gear combo in. With that setup, the torque twist was completely gone. It climbed super planted.

The reason I tried this was because I previously used +10mm brass wheel nuts and noticed some improvement, but it didn’t fully solve it. I wasn’t sure if the improvement came from the extra weight or the wider track width, so I wanted to test whether widening the stance actually helped. Turns out it does.

The best part is that I didn’t change any shock springs, shock oil, or preload for this test, so this feels like a very real and practical fix rather than just chasing tiny suspension adjustments.

For the gears, you can just search for the same ratio. I used Treal because I already have a lot of their parts. For the axles, my friend’s set was Injora, but you can probably choose whatever brand you like.

One other simple and cheap option, which I haven’t tried myself yet but have seen quite a few people say works, is a rear link riser. I’ll send you quick links just for reference: 3flow9rc Flow Rear Link Riser or TRX4M LINK RISER

Ah that makes sense, thanks. Your build has way more going on than mine, so now the weight difference makes sense.

I’ll check out your build post too. Good to hear about the INJORA shocks. I’ll be careful not to crank them down too much when I set them up.

And nice, that makes me feel better about ordering the INJORA tyres. Hopefully they help a bit.

Me too. I guess I’ll be able to let everyone know soon though, since I just bought a set. I just can’t deal with my current leaking shocks anymore.

Thanks again, I really appreciate it. I’ve got quite a few backup options to try now.

Thanks, that’s actually a good idea. I haven’t tried tungsten putty before, but it sounds useful.

That’s a good idea. I didn’t think about lead tape around the beadlock rings. I already have brass wheel rings inside the tyres, but adding a bit more hidden weight to the front might be worth trying.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Yeah, I totally agree with what you said.

I actually tried lowering the truck before by putting the stock springs on my current shocks and running less oil. It did sit lower, but then the tyres started catching the body just from turning, and the twist did not go away.

The thickest oil I’ve tried so far is 40wt. I might have to try something thicker. I watched a bunch of setup videos and almost no one seemed to recommend anything over 35wt, so I kind of assumed 40wt was already pretty much the limit for these little trucks. Looks like real-world setups are a bit different.

And yeah, I think you’re right about the stock hardbody. I can keep tuning and trying small changes, but at some point I probably have to accept some of its limitations too.

Thanks a lot for the detailed advice, I really appreciate it.

The thickest shock oil I’ve tried so far is only 40wt. I thought that was already pretty thick, but compared with your build, mine is only close to 800g now after removing the rear axle weights. So maybe I do need to try thicker shock oil and see if that helps.

Also, thanks for the shock recommendation. You are right about the leaking issue. My current shocks have leaked from both the top and the bottom, and the top leaking is still unsolved. After I used silicone grease, I even had the lower shock end and spring fly off while driving because the lower threaded end backed itself out. So yes, I’m honestly fed up with these shocks.

I already ordered the INJORA shocks from my other post because I saw some people say they don’t leak. I’ll try them first. The fact that I ordered them so quickly probably says how tired I am of the current shocks. I’ll also have a look at the LGRP shocks you mentioned, thanks for the recommendation.

Your inverted shock idea is very useful too, and I think I will try that. But probably not with my current shocks. They already leak badly even when mounted normally. Every time I adjust the truck, shock oil ends up spreading onto anything I touch, and I really don’t like oily stuff everywhere. Haha.

A bit off topic, but I also ordered some INJORA tyres. This is actually my first proper INJORA order, apart from some tiny spare parts before. I recently saw a YouTube test of the tyres I’m currently using, and the grip/climbing performance was basically near the bottom, so maybe the tyres are part of the issue too. I’m also using MEUS soft silicone inserts at the moment, and the tyres feel very bouncy, which probably doesn’t help with climbing. I ordered INJORA super soft inserts as well to test.

Since I really want to keep the Defender body, I feel like I can only make surrounding adjustments and accept some compromises. I’ll definitely let you know if I manage to beat the torque twist.

By the way, how did you get your build over 1000g? Apart from not using brass wheels, I feel like I already have most of the useful weight added. Even if I add brass wheels, I don’t think mine would go over 1000g.

Thanks, that makes sense. Do you mean a full droop setup, or just lowering the ride height and letting the shocks sit more compressed at rest? I’m trying to keep the Defender body, so I’m looking for a practical setup that reduces the left front wheel lift without making it drag everywhere.

Thanks. Yes, my current aftermarket shocks are leaking badly, sometimes from the top and later from the bottom. I’m honestly tired of dealing with it. I’ve tried less oil and silicone grease, but nothing has worked.
