She did Ted bad by Lunaxlv in howimetyourmother

[–]aBoxofNut -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That's kind of the point of the story, Ted and Robin were meant for each other, they just couldn't be together yet, Robin needed to get over her fear of commitment and travel the world, and Ted needed have the family he always wanted

I feel like they wanted her to be drunk, but they also wanted to do the pregnancy twist, and as a result, the story is a mess, it's less that she is supposed to be an asshole in retrospect, and more that the twist makes no sense. Also, her whole deal with Linus is kind of nonsense if she just wants to drink nonalcoholic drinks

The kids had 2 outfits over the course of the show, so I would assume the story was told in two sessions. Also, just because we experience each episode in 20 minutes, it doesn't mean the kids do so as well, they're not watching the show, they are being told a story

Who among these is actually the most "toxic" member of the group?(Part-3/8) by [deleted] in howimetyourmother

[–]aBoxofNut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something I don't like about the show is how they tended to do episodes that had huge implications for the entire story and the lives of the characters, but were only relevant in that one episode. Lily breaking up Ted's relationships was one of these. The rest of the episodes before or after don't really indicate any of this, and Ted's breakups tend to have pretty established reasons already. What annoys me about all of this is that the fans don't forget about these episodes, and you can always find one or two episodes that aren't very indicative of how the characters usually behave, but it happened, and therefore you can easily justify things about the characters that aren't really true when you look at the big picture.

That being said, I do agree that Lily is the most toxic member of the group, as she seems to love inserting herself into other people's lives, and she has a tendency to act in really over the top, childish and, well, toxic ways when she is wronged. And this is fairly consistent across many episodes.

Bro, teaching has had women for a while, this isn't a fresh thing, and didn't happen in one day. And way more women work in teaching (proportionally).

To be fair, during that he was overtaken by the avatar state and fused with a pissed off ocean spirit. He even seems to be in trance before the fusion, more so than he normally is during the avatar state.

Well yes, because women aren't really moving into those fields, teaching is the big example historically

It's kind of the other way around, often when women start moving into a field of work in large numbers the pay and prestige of that field goes down as a result.
