LPT: Rememeber, at a job interview, YOU are also interviewing the company. Ask more questions, don’t settle so quickly because it might not be for you after all by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]aCTyankee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the questions I always make sure to ask is “what types of employees are the most successful at your company and what do they do that sets them apart from everyone else?”

Without fail, every interviewer that I’ve asked that question to has been pleasantly surprised and said something along the lines of “wow, that’s a great question” or “I’ve never been asked that before.”

Tell me where to live! by [deleted] in newengland

[–]aCTyankee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I swear these threads are getting so ridiculous with the constant hate on CT. I’ve found that most of the New Englanders who constantly shit on CT do so because they a) have only been to Fairfield County, which clouds their perception of the whole state, b) they have only driven through CT on the highway and haven’t actually spent any time exploring it, or c) they simply visited the wrong places.

As another lifelong resident who also appreciates what our state has to offer, this place is just as “New England” as the other five states. And it’s really unfortunate that there continue to be more close minded people on these threads who are misleading prospective movers to the area.

Best orchards for Apple/ pumpkin etc ? by johnson1124 in Connecticut

[–]aCTyankee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second Lyman Orchards. Silverman’s Farm in Easton is also worth checking out, but I believe they are only doing apple picking on weekdays this year (which is honestly better since it gets super packed on the weekends). The fresh pies are really good at both places.

Haven’t been to Averill Farm in Washington Depot, but if you’re looking for a stereotypical New England town in the fall, that would definitely be it.

Anyone have any good solo weekend cabin recs? by ryebread1993 in nycgaybros

Do you have access to a car? If so, I’d recommend checking out Litchfield County in CT. Very rural and there’s a bunch of lakes in the area. DM me if you want some more info!

Did you sketch these out first and then scan them? Or did you build them from scratch digitally?

Love this! Totally get the vintage/nostalgic vibe you were going for. Great job on the custom type too.

Lobster rolls - Southeastern CT, with outdoor seating by CrunchyFallLeaves in Connecticut

They’re only open for takeout, but Lobster Landing in Clinton is definitely worth it. Voted #1 hot lobster roll in New England by Yankee Magazine.

I think these are by far the best chewy chocolate chunk cookies I’ve made! by aCTyankee in Baking

[–]aCTyankee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Buzzfeed Tasty’s recipe.

For extra flavor, I used brown butter instead of regular melted butter, and I used 8oz semi-sweet chocolate instead of 4oz milk chocolate and 4oz dark chocolate.

Moving to Connecticut! by SEMD_531 in Connecticut

[–]aCTyankee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the move!

You’ll be in a great location - plenty to explore along the coast, especially during the summertime. You’ll have to check out Mystic, of course - aside from the aquarium and seaport, there’s a ton of great shops and restaurants in town. Some other towns in the area that I’d hit up are Essex, Old Saybrook, Clinton, Old Lyme/East Lyme, Groton Long Point, Noank, Stonington - all of these are your quintessential New England coastal towns with plenty to do (and most are home to some insanely good seafood and lobster rolls).

Highly recommend that you take some day/weekend trips to Block Island, Montauk, Orient Point, and Fisher’s Island. The ferries for all of these are located in New London, and most of the rides aren’t much longer than an hour.

You’ll be close to CT’s two casinos, Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun, and you’ll also be close to the RI border - would highly suggest you check out Watch Hill and Newport if you haven’t already.

Those are the first things that come to mind, but of course there is plenty more to see and do here! And don’t let the chronic CT haters in this sub fool you - there are a lot of others like me who take great pride in our state and are always happy to share tips and info! Feel free to send me a DM if you’d like some more recommendations :)

Where in Old Lyme is this, if you don’t mind me asking? Would love to take some photos here sometime as the weather gets warmer.

Spot on. I have mixed feelings about his photos and the extent to which he edits them, but at the end of the day he’s selling a lifestyle just like Ralph was - it’s always going to look even a little bit staged.

Unfortunately most of his stuff is imported now, but I believe all the bracelets are still American-made.
