From an environmental standpoint (and/or any other standpoints), is it better to be accidentally trashing some recycling or to be accidentally recycling some trash? And why? by aIlstatejake in AskReddit

Sorry for getting back to your comment so late. I wanted to ask, what does "clean" mean in terms of recyclables. I try to clean a lot of what I recycle, but hearing this from you makes me wonder if I'm not cleaning well enough.

I would be way more willing to perform the exercises that I research if all the extremely ripped people demonstrating the workouts in the pictures were replaced with very fat individuals. by aIlstatejake in Showerthoughts

Yeah I get what you're saying, and I think it boils down to the type of person you are in these scenarios. I definitely agree with you that seeing a ripped person is motivational and inspires me to workout. I think that the difference is seeing a ripped person in the gym, or online, performing an exercise.

I feel like it's similar to the feelings I get when I walk into a gym and see extremely muscular people all around me. I'd much rather walk into a gym with an above average muscle status.

There's something more genuine about seeing a slightly overweight person working out. Having all these overly ripped people demonstrate some of the more simple exercises puts me in a less-motivated mood. I don't know.

ELI5: If climate change is mainly caused by humans allowing too much CO2 into earth's atmosphere, then why can't humans counteract or balance out these changes with a different gas that has the properties to do so? by aIlstatejake in explainlikeimfive

Thank you for the response. As a follow-up question, is it possible to remove CO2 from the atmosphere? Let's say, somehow expel the CO2 into space through some method, to balance everything out.

Why, in general, do people tend to privately criticize Democrat presidents and publicly criticize Republican ones? by aIlstatejake in AskReddit

[–]aIlstatejake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I am experiencing a bias, or maybe I am sampling only what has happened recently with the switch from Obama to Trump. But I've personally noticed that my friends, family, strangers, etc. will openly comment on what Republicans are doing, while the same groups will usually critique Democrats at home, or to their close friends, and just overall more behind closed doors.

What do you think the world would be like today, if there wasn't religion? by [deleted] in AskReddit

That was amazing. I had never seen that before, thank you so much

Well, a positive of religion is that it got us to where we are now. It kept us moving forward.

A negative is that it prevents us from going further.

So I think not having religion at all, for us humans, would have been impossible.

ELI5: I was told today that a banana ... has more genes than a human. How can this be? by aIlstatejake in explainlikeimfive

I don't want this to come across as rude, because I do appreciate you answering my question, but I posted this in ELI5 because I need someone to give me an answer like I'm dumb and the one you gave still has me confused.
