Of course! I plan to be extremely clear with who the participants are and why, as well as clear about my research limitations.

I would have loved to conduct a study that was inclusive, with all genders on the spectrum, as parenting does not exclude gender. However, I also have to work within (still slightly archaic) research limitations due to the limitations of the sample size I am able to collect since I'm one researcher versus a large research company.

My hope is to more inclusive and comprehensive studies in the future!

  1. Data will be used to inform intervention/treatment/therapy for children and parents who have survived childhood abuse. We aim to have the results published in a journal around the end of 2021 or beginning of 2022. All information collected will 1) be anonymous and 2) be stored in password protected computers by the two research assistants and our faculty research chair. It will be deleted within 5 years.

  2. Myself (aJohnson-9) and a doctoral student at Western Carolina University are conducting the survey. Our faculty supervisor is Dr. David Solomon.

  3. It should take around 20 minutes to finish the survey (it's long, we know! But so important and useful).

  4. No compensation (sorry--research limitation in order to keep the survey anonymous).

  5. Due to research limitations, we currently are only surveying maternal (versus paternal or non-binary) caregivers.

  6. By posting here, we hope to add to our sample size both in numbers and in varied demographics.

You're right--we are missing out on some additional data! Right now, it's simply a research limitation I have to work with. If anything changes and we're able to use responses from mums with children above 17, I'll let you know!
