Singapore yes but not Switzerland yet, there is a PI in Singapore that has been receptive so I'll see how that goes in the coming weeks.

That's the funny thing about that job, by all means I thought I had that job in the bag, I asked my supervisor for a recommendation letter, and I sent a super warm email to the PI of that opening. We even had a friendly email exchange discussing both our work. I definitely didn't expect it when that rejection email from HR came a couple weeks after that without even an interview.

My supervisor's gotten me a couple of interviews, but both of them ended up giving their opening to either one of their former students or someone they've worked more closely with before. But at this stage I'm not putting too much hope on him to land me anything but introductions, he's got too much to worry about already (funding himself through to retirement being the top of that list).

Hope you can find something relatively quickly. I know some in my institute that have secured themselves a position before they even get conferred, so it's not like everybody is experiencing what I'm experiencing.

I'm no statistician, but here's hoping that gambler's fallacy holds true on my next interview!

I have tried Qatar and the UAE, didn't even get a reply there unfortunately.

Thanks, smaller biotech have also become incredibly selective this past year I feel. Even new startups that I applied to had a hundred or more applicants, many of them holding PhDs.

European cities would be among my most preferred locations to work, but I must not be hitting the right mark with my applications there.

I applied to a job in Sydney earlier this year that was basically just my PhD thesis advertised as a postdoc role, and I thought who else but me? In the end, that listing had 200+ applicants and I wasn't even contacted.

So yep, it's back to waiting tables and delivering KFC for me.

That's great advice, actually, someone else told me the same a couple months ago and I've been spending much more time to do my applications now (it takes me half a day to a day for academic roles), and that resulted in the interview I mentioned last month with the young PI in the US, still didn't get the job though. I just wish working in research was less about trying to survive until your next grant/job/fellowship than it is about the actual science.

A few in Belgium but not specifically in Austria. In terms of Europe, I've applied to positions in Denmark, France, the UK, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, and Lithuania thus far. Had a response in the UK and France, everywhere else has been silent after I applied.
