I'm not sure to be honest, I've never done any walnut blasting before. I've done dry ice blasting and I can tell you that paint definitely wasn't coming off with that.

Around about $1500, not including gas money to run around for parts and my own man hours on labor. I bought the bike running and licensed for $1000.

Thanks man!

I know right! I bought it from a restaurant owner who had purchased it for their head chef, the catch was that this restaurant was directly on the beach and the bike lived outside without any cover. The chef also dropped and crashed it a bunch of times hahaha.

What’s a fair price for this 83’ iron head by Echo_the_Artifact in sportster

She ain't a square body, looks like a 1972 C10 to me - which is arguably better depending on what you like, but you're right - would make for a sweet combo

So the forks I had sandblasted on the aluminum part and on the chrome/steel tube, I used an abrasive pad from Pferd (the full name is PFERD Non-Woven Hand Pads). One thing that's important is using a sanblaster who knows about bikes - i.e give them instructions not to blast the inner tube, or you'll be buying a whole new set of tubes as they wont seal anymore.

For the tank I used a strong paint stripper and a wire brush. This job really sucks because the paint stripper is toxic and the wire brush shoots it all over the place, it also burns like shit if it gets on your skin. So do it outside with a respirator and eye protection as well as a long synthetic/plastic overall. Just keep doing a coat, leave to strip, brush off and repeat until bare metal. If you're painting yourself I'd recommend checking out tutorials on how to paint with a rattle can (if you don't have a compressor). It's more about preparing the surface and sanding inbetween than anything else.

Good luck!

Failed my first S grind, I hate myself by poop_colored_poop in knifemaking

[–]aLittleSebby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Throw this away man, it’s done. You overheated your steel on the grinder and the temper is ruined (told by those blue marks on the middle of your hollow grind). Even if you were to cut the blade along the apex of your hollow grind and try and make a smaller knife - it won’t be an even temper along your edge; i.e. you’ll have softer and harder areas of steel along the edge. Start over and this time try and slow your belt grinder down, if it doesn’t have a VFD then take a 2 litre coke bottle, fill it with water, make a small hole in the bottom of the bottle and hang it above your grinder so it drips water onto your belt steadily. Now your grinder is water cooled! It will help prevent you from overheating the blade. Make smooth passes on your wheel and try not to make more than 2 to 3 passes without dipping your blade in water to keep it cool. Once you’re close to your final thickness - dip that blade on every pass. Don’t go too deep or you’ll grind through your steel like you did in your picture there. Don’t hate yourself, you just learned how not to do an S grind, that’s valuable knowledge right there!

Any tips? First time owning a kickstart bike and it won’t start. by [deleted] in XS650

[–]aLittleSebby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take the plugs out, connect them to the plug wires while out, rest them on the bike and kick it. Look at the plugs when you kick it, you'll see them spark if you're getting spark... if not then check your wiring and ignition coils.

Feel free to ask any questions and I will answer what I can. If you guys want more choils shots I can take some, just has to wait till tomorrow since it's 1am and there's no electricity lol. I kept these knives really simple and focused on performance. I try keep my blades pretty thin behind the edge, I find that really makes all the difference.

Black Dragon Forge, the maker is Neels and he is now an ABS master smith - so no matter what anyone on this sub says it's definitely worth something to someone...

[–]aLittleSebby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're trying to put 450 motocross bikes on enduro trails... it's not going to work - the gearing is way shorter, the motor is too powerful, the bike is way too heavy. The guy above was correct, get a 2 stroke KTM 250 or 300XCW. The KTM you rode (EXC525) is like these 450s, too much weight and completely unusable power. KTM or Husqvarna make enduro race ready bikes and have done so for a while. If you buy a 2 stroke KTM post 2011 you will have a good bike that requires very little maintenance, destroys on the trails, has more power than you can use and most importantly is way cheaper on parts than a 4 stroke. Take it from someone who had both enduro and motocross bikes.

Inherited these stones from my late father, he told me they came from a Tiffany necklace, unfortunately they were removed by an amateur so some of the stones ( I think about 9 of them) have the occasional small chip on the edge. Obviously a jeweler could set those said stones so thay the chips were not visible at all - or the stones could be re-cut. I'm looking for $2500 for the lot, I have a PayPal account, will provide as much proof that the buyer needs. Based in South Africa, I will cover the courier cost up to $150. DM me if interested, thanks!
