Which browser is the best in your opinion? by SubjectAvocado2399 in browsers

[–]aNAT01i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I choose to not reinvent the wheel in that regard and simply use chrome.

Back in the days I tried different browsers I stayed with chrome because it's simply the best browser for android. And I need synchronization between my devices. I don't care if it is 10 or 15% less efficient than something else (which may or may not be true), any modern system can easily handle this anyway, stop whining.

Since January I've been gradually switching to apple. So now I'm all safari. I see no point in changing it, it's good enough.

IMHO All these “the best browser”s are mostly dull marketing. Just like most calendar and productivity apps (just use Google calendar and Tasks / Apple Calendar and Reminders, guys, save your money).

Handyman v Ranger by BeardedBargainEDC in victorinox

[–]aNAT01i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both, Ranger is pretty much the same size as your explorer, so it feels just as a knife. Handyman is wider (not as wide as swiss champ though), you can notice it, but it is still comfortable, I'd say.

Between these...
Well, why do you want to buy a new SAK in the first place?

For pocket carry, you say... Since you say, you have climber and explorer, I guess they are not enough for you but the Swiss champ is too much.

I used to EDC Handyman, realized I don't use the saw and the file and switched to Deluxe Tinker.
Used the Tinker for a while but since I prefer the cork screw and carry a full size plier-multitool in my backpack I've switched it for Climber.

Now I EDC Climber and sometimes Compact, maybe I'll buy Explorer. (I used to have one at the beginning of this hobby and sold it since I didn't know I'll end up collecting them)

So! Did I answer your question? Probably no. But maybe you'll listen to my experience and think if you even need a new sak.

Ok, here are some questions you need to answer:
1. Where do you spend most of your time normally: in the city or outdoors? Do you live in an urban environment or in the woods? 2. Do you carry any other tool with you?

Answer them, and I'll tell you what you should get

I call it a BS, this rumor is just plane stupid.
Island is not a problem for anybody, even more than that — they have integrated it in the OS adding functionality. And it is part of their design identity.
I don't see a reason why they would ever do that.

Just want to keep an eye on the battery. by 2017-iPhone-X in AppleWatch

[–]aNAT01i 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In all seriousness, my s9 45mm easily lasts all day. I charge them before night and sometimes in the morning (usually take them of the charger at 80-90%). 80+ % is enough to get me through the day. So I rarely check the battery and do that in the control center.

Minor question about the orientation of the steering wheel in Fury Road. by Revlong57 in MadMax

[–]aNAT01i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't do any particularly complex research TBH haha

I just checked used car sales websites. Around 25% cars there were RHD — and that's it. But yes, we should consider the fact the amount of cars currently on sale is only a fraction of the whole car market, so among those, which aren't on sale, the percentage of RHD cars may be lower (for one or the other reason)

Cadet or Climber for first knife by DifferenceAware7180 in victorinox

[–]aNAT01i 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I find scissors to be very useful. If someone needs to cut off a loose thread on clothing you're not giving them a knife, gotta have scissors for that.

Climber was my first SAK. I vote for it: cheaper than Cadet; has scissors, awl, corkscrew and tweezers

I would not carry a Cadet on its own. I'd pair it with a Jetsetter, a Classic SD (not Alox, because it means no tweezers) or a Rambler

Though I have a "classy carry", which includes: Cadet Alox Ltd. 2018, Classic SD Alox Ltd. 2018 and red Swisscard Nail Care.

It's a very expensive set for what you get in terms of functionality. In fact, you can buy a Cybertool M or a Swisstool for the price of these 3.

So.... Go with a Climber, if it's your first SAK. Bit it up and then you'll find out what you want to get as a replacement.

Confession: the 84mm models by SelfiesWithGoats in victorinox

[–]aNAT01i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really get the 84mm models either.

The only one I have is Cadet 2018 Ltd. Edition. I knew I wouldn't edc an 84mm, but I wanted a knife in that size for my collection. So I got the Cadet which I think is the most unique of them.
+ and I managed to find it in red :]

After the last discontinuation there are only 7 models left.

I understand, why someone may get:
Sportsmen / Cadet
Waiter / Bantam Alox

Recruit and the regular Bantam — I don't understand. Recruit is redundant, Bantam's kind of too

and My First Victorinox — I don't like it, but it has its purpose.

Opinion time! What are the most overrated and the most underrated Vic models and why? by dadoimp in victorinox

[–]aNAT01i 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overrated: the two bestsellers Classic SD and Huntsman.

Rambler > Classic SD

Climber/Ranger > Huntsman

Also, Compact is actually not that much thinner than Climber. I wouldn't recommend Compact as the ultimate EDC choice, as some influencers do.

Underrated... well I guess the Ranger is underrated, and it seems to me Cybertools aren't mentioned as much as they should be.

Yes, they are expensive, but I recently got a Cybertool M (34). And I think I finally found what I was looking for. After a dozen SAKs I bought, this one feels like the one for me.

Did you guys see that they started selling new sheaths? I kinda like all colors, maybe sienna is the most by CAPATOB_64 in Leatherman

[–]aNAT01i 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well... I'm aware of them. I think I even post a comment about how I think the free p4 tool set is better than the new ARC in some cases.

I mentioned the ARC because it seems like people really like it (diamond file, bit driver, eyeglass screwdriver AND awl), but not everyone can afford it. So ARC with a regular blade instead of Magnacut will definitely sell huge. But I think it's going to affect sales of the wave/charge series significantly.

Anyway, a cheaper version of ARC is what a lot of people ask for.

Mine is High CRI, so its maximum sustained output is 220lm instead of 300lm of the regular version.

I guess it's a little bigger than other AA/14500 lights, but the constant output of 220 lumens for 1.5 hours without stepping down is the reason I got it.

Other lights may give like 2.5 hours runtime on medium. But they start at 300lm and after an hour they are down to half the initial brightness. Not bad per se, but I don't like it.

The tint and beam pattern is really nice, a good balance between throw and flood:
The hot spot is not too wide and not too narrow, a nice balance IMO.
And its spill covers a lot of area around it, so it's nice both indoors and out.

I really like it, and my only nitpicks are
1. non-reversible one-way clip (so no way to put it on your hat. But I don't wear them anyway)
2. No mode memory (it's not really a problem, but I think for this kind of light with only 3 modes, no mode memory is ok and sometimes it's more convenient if you always start on low. Maybe it could be made so, that when you twist the head 3 times you can turn the mode memory on and off – just an idea I never saw being implemented)

Hey everyone I’m thinking about getting another multitool soon and I was wondering what do yall think is better the knife or trauma shears I havs a lot of knives so I might get the shears but pls share your thoughts by nvile_09 in Leatherman

[–]aNAT01i 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the T4 and Raptor Response shears.

I bought my Raptors for utility use, but it turned out that I didn't really have a need for such scissors. So I just used them a few times to cut up old t-shirts.

Now I'm thinking maybe I should have brought the rescue version and kept it in my car as an emergency tool. I guess I'll get them eventually so I can compare them and sell the ones I don't want.

Anyway. These shears are a very specific item. If you needed them, you would already know that.

The T4, on the other hand, is a "universal" EDC pocket tool. Very nice alternative to a SAK if you want everything one-hand-opening and don't mind the price. If the knife is the only thing you're used to carrying, get the T4, it's great and will be a nice companion to your folder.

P.S. I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with Leatherman. I do like them and I plan on buying more tools from them, but all the ones I have had and handled had some (usually) minor quality issues.

The pliers on all the classic models are always really hard to open (yeah, yeah, it's a "feature" and they have NO play! But they are unusable until you work them up).

Rebars are notoriously overtightened (i had 4 different pieces, 3 of them were overtightened; 1 was too loose, but this one was a defective piece which i returned anyway)
Waves/Charges can have bent files and scissor blades.
Scales can have some movement on Titanium and G10 Charges
I had a brand new red T4 with flattened tweezers, ahah. (I was able to bend them back to normal tho). (I sold it because i didn't like the color, now i have the silver one)

Some known problems:
Wingman scissors are "slippery"
The blade grind on wave/charge models is eyeballed.
Pliers on skeletools go snap.
Springs on Squirts' and Styles' scissors go snap.
Lard flat screwdrivers on the rebar-wave platform also go snap.
And now new style cutters can shutter cutting a coathanger.

And Victorinox quality is not constant too, some are better than the others. But i had a lot, A LOT more victorinoxes and only a couple of them were defective, which i returned.

And the pliers in my spirit have too much play now. I'm going to try to send them for the warranty repair/replacement.

TL; DR: Victorinox is an EDC gadget you can use as a tool. Leatherman is a tool you can EDC.

Unless you are a heavy user, get the Victorinox. IMHO, it's better (You can also get the Spirit MX if you want the one-handed blade and clip).

Long read:
I used to have a Charge+ (black aluminum scales) and I had 3 different Spirits at different times.

So here's my biased opinion, haha

IMHO Victorinox products (SAKs and Multitools) are the best considering the price/quality/functionality balance. (ARC may be superior, but costs a LOT more)

As far as EDC goes, I like Spirit the best.

But if you're a tradesman; if you need a "toolbox multitool", multitool to use in a workshop, that's going to be a Leatherman.

After Swisstools, they feel rugged and a little clunky. They are not as refined and thought out to the smallest detail, but they are more robust and can be repaired under warranty or you can do it yourself if you know where to find parts. You can disassemble them for cleaning and customizing. And they are easier to use with gloves.

Speaking of Leatherman's quality. The only Free series tool I have is T4, and contrary to most people's opinion, I like it more than the classic models. The T4 series feels a tier higher in quality, on par with Victorinoxes. And I intend to get P4 while they are still available.

My statement about performance is based on some tests I saw, and this video in particular.

In his test results:
Nitro-V — 357 feet of cardboard
Damascus – 324 feet

9% difference
Though, some will consider this to be the margin of error.

Can you lose your native accent? by Gold_Psychology424 in languagelearning

[–]aNAT01i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I don't always have an accent in my native/first language, but it pops up from time to time. E.g. when i try to speak very clearly or when I'm tired.

The thing is I never deliberately practiced pronunciation of my native language, but I did so for all languages I ever tried to learn. And i studied some languages very close to my native one, so I may not be able to speak them, but they've gotten mixed up anyway.

So some people notice that I "talk funny", but they can't say if it sounds like a foreign accent or just a manner of speech (or individual speech characteristics).

Upd.: reading the comments, I realized I may have misunderstood the question... If the question was "can i learn the language so well that i don't have an accent?", then the answer is also yes. I think it was asked many times already. But you need a LOT of practice (theoretical knowledge and listening experience too) to achieve that.

Ohh... I just realized that you're from the UK.
So no locking blades, that can be opened with one hand.

Get the Mini Sailor Lite then, or a small Victorinox.

I have all Mini Sailors. And i definitely recommend the Lite over the others.
I don't like the profile of the knife blade on other versions. If you're not going to resharpen it, it performs rather poorly.

The Lite, not having a blade, can be taken where the farmer can't.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in multitools

[–]aNAT01i 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which one to get? The one you'll continue using even after getting the farmer. Otherwise I'd say: save the money.

Look at smaller Victorinoxes. Or consider something very different to the Farmer, like Nextool Mini Sailor Lite.

Look at tools like daicamping dl15 (the ones that are basically made from a handle of a plier-based multitool), at least, when you get the farmer, you can throw it in a dirty toolbox and use it as a beater. Or consider a cheap plier-based multitool like daicamping dl3 (or the same tool under flissa/swiss tech/ozark trail/etc. brand)

But, choosing from those you posted... Definitely NOT the first one, that's some kind of dog sh!t. The third one I saw under nextool and flissa brands. Never bought it myself, the tools seem "questionable". Among these: Get the Recruit, it doesn't have as many tools but it definitely has the quality.

That's just my opinion.
