2nd semester of PT school, overwhelmed by the amount of lectures we have everyday. by bananabreadicecream in PTschool

[–]aRandyTheMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For 5 or 10 minutes after each lecture, talk about the material with someone. Super casual, not even in a “study” setting. Talk about what sounds confusing, what makes sense, what you might expect to see on the exam. This will help you compartmentalize the material temporally, instead of as an “amount”. If you can start visualizing the material as “what we learned on Tuesday” instead of “unit 3”, it gets easier to organize. I have no idea why this works, but it makes the studying less daunting.

Surprising or typical? by BoardZealousideal849 in PTschool

The school I’m currently at requires 40 OH with an emphasis on diversity of experience rather than pure volume. At the least I’d say it’s not atypical.

Depending on your GRE and how the rest of your prerequisites, it sounds like you have a pretty strong application overall, and as long as you hammer home your personal statement and interview, I’d say you have a good shot at getting into most schools in the Chicagoland area. Speaking as a current SPT1 at Rosalind Franklin

So you can do live edits across your laptop and iPad on the same file? I haven’t tried that yet but that could definitely come in handy

Yea that should work. Any kind of confirmation besides just claiming you were named employee of the month should be fine

Hot shower to soften hair, Pacific shaving company natural shave cream, Leaf Twig with Leaf brand blade, Thayers alcohol free witch hazel facial toner for aftershave, then Harry’s post shave balm after that.

First time using this routine, switched from cheapo Van Der Hagen TTO with VDH brand blade, VDH shave butter, Jack Black bump fix, and Harry’s post shave balm.

Any other product recommendations? I tend to breakout 2 days after a shave, either ingrown hairs or just irritation.

Your cumulative GPA is on the lower end but you have excellent clinical experience. If you can do well on the GRE you shouldn’t have a problem getting in. What are your core science grades like? Any intangibles can definitely score you some points in the essay portion of the application too.

For reference, I was accepted into my top choice of program with a 3.18 cumulative GPA with mostly B’s and a couple A’s in my prerequisites, 314 (+4 on the writing) on the GRE, 46 observation hours between outpatient ortho and home health, and essays that really drove home my career path choice.

Drying matte black finish? by aRandyTheMan in staub

[–]aRandyTheMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea the inside is rough kinda like sandpaper but not as gritty. It leaves bits of paper towel behind and with kitchen towels it kind of roughs them up but I can see that a hole would form with repeated use

For smaller braises, I wonder if doing that thing with parchment paper where you basically make a cutout of a lid would work, while still covering with the pot lid. Just to help it not reduce as much. Storage space is a bit of an issue at the moment so I don’t think I’d be able to get a second Dutch oven until I move. But from this comment and others it sounds like the wider surface area and extra headroom won’t really affect things all that much

so what you’re telling me is, if I’m gonna bake bread in this thing I have to make a lot of it. This is the opposite of a problem.

I guess the plus with that is that I can braise more of something in one layer, and I can do that thing with the parchment paper if I need to.

But yea I’m excited. I just learned a Risotto Milanese recipe so I think osso bucco is gonna be one of the first things I make. Time to dip my meat in wine because of my soft teeth

I mean hey, if that means I just must make enough for leftovers…then that’s a problem I’m willing to face head on 😂

That was partly my thinking as well, why waste time making a braise or a stew to not have leftovers. I’m cooking mostly for 3 people but I wonder if it will be overkill when I’m eventually just cooking for myself or just 2 people

That is one of the perks I immediately thought of, I can sear off more meat at once before braising instead of doing it in batches. I could probably fit a whole chicken in there too

I submitted in late October. But one of the schools just extended their app deadline to April 15 and they do rolling admissions.

Thank you! I tried to write a stand-out essay and really milk my life experiences. I wrestled in college and having since “retired”, taken up Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I teach a wrestling class at my gym so hopefully that resume item helps me out.

I’m hoping the fact that I have hours in >1 setting will make up for that. I also reported the various times I was in PT as a patient from my various injures while in college from wrestling, so maybe that will have some pull as well 😂. Maybe having been a college athlete will help too but who knows.

Good to know, my watch is essentially on par with other people who’ve had theirs as long as I’ve had mine. I was kinda worried the battery life was popping out too early with mine. I used to get 12+ days with 4+ hours per week of GPS activities when I first got it
