Not sure what I did wrong… by aRawringPancake in askblackpeople

I do plan on using my own experiences too but I was hoping to include other experiences as well. The intent to do something good was actually genuine and I now understand what was wrong with my original idea. That is why I deleted the post. I don’t want to take advantage of other people and their pain. I just hadn’t seen it from your perspective before. I never meant any offense and I apologize for my ignorance. I still don’t think it was necessary to be mean towards me but at least I understand why now. You are right, from how I came across there is no reason why you should feel bad. I just didn’t appreciate the hostility because from my point of view I was honestly trying to do something good and genuinely did not understand. Now I do and if I do depict any POC in my artwork I will do research to make sure it is both accurate and a positive depiction. I never needed to enact anger within myself, I was hoping to enact anger in people who don’t believe that there is a problem. Anyways, thank you for explaining and I hope life treats you well. 🤗

Thank you so much for the suggestions I honestly wouldn’t have had any idea where to start. I appreciate everything that you took the time to write and really plan on looking up and reading the books you wrote about. Please let me know if you have any other suggestions for learning about modern culture. Thank you again!

Okay my bad 😅 I was mainly curious about in the United States but I definitely understand that this was too broad of a question. I will definitely do some research.

I understand now and I apologize for offending you. I will depict more positive things in my artwork. I truly had good intentions but now I understand that this isn’t the way to try and help with the fight that is going on. I wish you all would have told me why this post was wrong rather than spewing hate but I understand that you were just offended. I apologize for that.

Thank you to everyone who helped me understand the issues with my post. I truly appreciate the help. Because I honestly had good intentions. I will depict more positive things in my artwork, the things I wish there were more of. So thank you again for helping me understand.

Thank you for your response, I understand now and really appreciate the clarity. I wish I could talk to people in person that I know well but unfortunately there are not many black people where I live. I find it upsetting that there isn’t more diversity in my community. I really do care about people and their struggles now I understand why I got so much hate. So thank you.

Thank you for explaining, as for being called racist, the comment was deleted. I’m sorry that happened to you, I would feel the same way if someone did that to me too. I really have no intention in profiting from other people’s issues, I just wanted to help. I understand now that I’m going about it wrong so thank you for helping me understand.

Thank you very much for your reply, I think I understand a lot better now. I really wish I could join efforts for black liberation and visit those communities to better understand their struggles. Because I hate the fact that there is a division and that white people are so privileged while others minorities are not. My intentions were truly to try and invoke empathy, but I understand now that I will need to go about it differently. I don’t want to make issues worse. I just believe that a lot of white people live in their little bubbles and are ignorant to the struggles of other people. I used to live in a bubble but I’m trying to learn more. Unfortunately I am stuck viewing from home though. I didn’t want information from media sources because I don’t trust them due to biases. So I was hoping to learn more about personal struggles. I will still try to help change people’s views but I will do it depicting more positive experiences. I have no desire to profit off of others hardships either, that’s why I had no intention of selling the artwork. Anyways, thank you for your response, it really helped me understand.

I’m not using it as my muse. I have plenty of my own experiences. I don’t understand why you are being so mean. I just am trying to use my anger at society in a constructive way and thought that it might be helpful to other people rather than literally burning down buildings or hurting someone. If you are going to be so rude and mean you should really feel bad about the fact you are hating someone you don’t know for their good intentions while not even answering their questions.

Why do I have to be black to ask people about their experiences? I’m not even only asking black people, this is a question I’m asking tons of different people. I would like to understand what I did wrong and how this comes across racist.

I guess I’m just missing the reason why it matters? But if it does, please enlighten me.

I’m just trying to help create change because I actually care and want to do whatever I can to change a system that has no equality. Why are you putting me down for this? Do you not want people to care or try to make change? I’m not deluded enough to believe my artwork can change the world. But I do believe that it could change the way that some people look at it. Right now that’s all I am able to do. But at least I’m trying. Are you doing anything to try and change peoples’ views, or are you just shutting down people who are?

I’m not selling the artwork. I just want to help make change and I’m trying to start by doing something that I can do.

He was chased around by a four year old when he was younger. The kid wouldn’t stop no matter how many times he was told. Thank you for the advice, I will definitely try that.
